As much as I admire Musharaff for his raw fauzi, no-spin, non-politician like speeches…this segment of his speech today where he was pleading the West for understanding was quite uncalled for :

This should hurt the self-esteem and pride of Pakistan as a nation.

Exactly his begging went too far but as I have always said he would sell Pakistan if that is what it takes for him to hold on to power.

This was a desperate attempt by a dictator to cling onto power by attacking the Supreme Court, which was poised to decide against him.

I think that Musharraf's days are numbered. He has put himself into a corner out of which he would struggle to get out.

How can you expect the man who used them to further his own political ambitions to crush them. He even said in his speech that Pakistan was made a laughing stock when lal masjid thing happened in the capital. He than said how could this happen. Someone should have told him it happened on his watch and due to his incompetence and his selfishness to use the issue to further strengthen his kursi. Anyother leader who had any conscious would have accepted his failure and resigned, not him.

thats because he is not a leader, he is a dictator. he only knows how to kill innocent civilians, make deals with corrupt politicians, forgive billions in loans, defy SC rulings and play musical-chair with judges to get what he wants. a madman putting saddam to shame to say the least.

Yes, Musharaff played a major part in creating the problem. But unfortunately, he is also the best bet to solve it.

I don't see how any kind of alternative will be better in the given situation.

Just imagine Supreme Court was interfering with government day to day work, even where they have no right. For instance, Supreme Court pushed government to appoint Rasheed nephew as Naib-Imam and result was that this idiot was giving BS fatwa against Pakistan army and was praising those fighting Pakistan and Pakistan army in Swat and Waziristan. Later Supreme Court gave order to government to paint the red mosque red (cannot understand what it is to do with Supreme Court to do that). I could not understand what right Supreme Court has to order any appointment in government job (naib imam of government mosque is government job) or order the colour of any building that belongs to government. What right Supreme Court has to order government to open a Madrasa and appoint wife of Rasheed as principle there?

Absolutely correct. The vindictice ex-CJ of the Supreme Court was making orders that led to terrorists being let off, and probably end up carrying terrorists attacks that have killed hundreds. Musharraf should have taken this action much sooner.
