When Indra Gandhi declared Emergency in India - it too was precisely for the same reasons - the Judiciary has voted her election as null & void.
The next year & a half - people lived in fear. Forcible 'nas bandhi's' were being done, opposition, media, freedom was sqashed. Anyone could be arrested.
And yet there were large number of people who were praising her for the law & order improvement.
It is so easy to fool the people - whether it is India or Pakistan.
That depends if the current dictator is going to around for 6 month or not. The way I see it there are going to be mass protests in coming days, and Mushrraf is going turn Pakistani army against Pakistani people. Now, average soldier is going to to kill his own people, but they will take out Mushrraf which long over due.
its better that pak army is doing the killing. other alternative is uncle sam dropping daisy-cutters from 20k feet up. and since my family is in pak, i would chose pak army over u.s. army any day.
as for protest, you should be happy. musharraf has given you a dead body. as for me, i will be buying pakistani stocks monday a.m.
you keep ur friend close and enemies even closer, in mushy’s case, share the same bed…:halo: he needs these terrorists to stay in power. dictatorships thrive on chaos and confusion. thats wht he’s been doing for the last 7-8 years. create as much chaos and confusion that it will become easy for him to sink his teeth further into power. he wants to become a legend. now matter wht it takes..he is hell bent to destroy pakistan. thats a fact as straight as a jalebi. :halo:
In 2000 only 4 of the 15 SC judges took the oath under the PCO. The positions of the other 11 were filled quite quickly (including one by a certain Ch.Iftikhar), and the Supreme Court went on functioning.
Like in 2000 4 judges have taken under the PCO today. I am sure the vacant positions left by the others will also be filled quite quickly, and the Supreme Court will carry on functioning.
I am sure the new judges will much more careful than the previous lot in not letting murderers and terrorists to be released, so that they can terrorise people across Pakistan.
Sure, today Supreme Court judges Halal earning is over Rs 130000 a month plus plenty of benefit amounting to much over Rs 100000. High Court judges also earn over Rs 100000 a month plus benefits that amount to another 100000 a month plus. Pension is also generous … So, many would feel lucky to get such jobs? :)
Uper kee kamai is extra, ask ex-CJ chaudhari Iftikhar ... Just imagine that when ex-CJ pay was less than Rs 20000 a month, his son was driving BMW 500 series :)
World reaction (especially from the major powers) has been largely cautious and diplomatic, and not one has outright condemnded it.
Once again some judges of the Supreme Court have fallen into line, and dozens of high court judges have sworn an oath on the PCO.
Opposition leaders are rudderless and divided. BB is going to Islamabad to meet with “important personalities” and Fazlur Rehman is being careful with his words.
Most importantly NO reaction on the streets of Pakistan against the declaration of Emergency Rule.
now thats true patriotism. chosing pak army jawans over USA daisy-cutters to kill your family. waise don’t forget one thing…army kills with no reservations…
this essentially a move against chief justice and some of his buddies in the supreme court who are under the mistaken assumption that they are the executive. i think musharraf in his speech will outline the reasons behind his dismissal of chief justice in march. also you will see some steps against the media. i think the lal masjid saga pretty much indicates that government had to act against both groups. media treats jehadis as heroes and judges were releasing murderers taking shelter inside lal masjid. i think couple of weeks from now it will be business as usual with new judges and much restrained press. you will also see the government acting more forcefully against militants. bottomline, there will be turmoil in the short run and then business as usual.
I agree.
We will see a complete halt to terrorists being released by the Supreme Court as was happening under the previous CJ Iftikhar. Now all those terrorists released by ex-CJ Iftikhar will hunted down and hopefully eliminated with other terrorists that are found, which will be much, much easier to achieve under Emergency Rule.
i have an insurance policy. day jehadis take over, day i pull my family out. jehadis are menance to humanity and intl community will be justified in acting against pak if pak army does not have the stomach for a fight for which army is handsomely rewarded.
At end of Mushrrafs speech he mentioned that some of the "baarooni mulik Pakistanis" have been urging him to take this action... and at that time was thinking Sa1eem has high connections in Pakistan. lol
only 2 of 17 SC judges have taken oath on Musharraf PCO. The crisis will start on monday when there will be no one in SC apart from two govt chamchays trying to run the judiciary.

Supporters of Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf chant slogans in Islamabad November 3, 2007. Musharraf imposed emergency rule on Saturday because of mounting militant attacks and interference by members of the judiciary, according to the text of his order.
Pakistan's Amb. to U.S was on CNN. According to him, this extraordinary measure is taken to get rid of terrorists. This emergency rule is temporary and in future we will see a civilian President Musharraf. He did not give any time table, but insisted that elections will be held and the move is temporary in order to contain and capture militants.
