what rights does ur boss have over your email at work? I hear its legal (to some extent) that the boss can “read” ur emails..
earlier in the week, i had the misfortune of my manager going thru my emails.. today i find that ALLLLL my personal emails and emails in my Inbox have been deleted..
Well here in Canada, I know that the boss can easily get into and check all your E-Mails because the computer is supposed to be used for the work , so yeah they do have a legal right.
yeah, i know as a company they have the right to i guess "check" things in my account.. but to see who im sending emails to, delete my entire folder marked "Personal" and to delete my inbox where i have all client information... its for my own personal record...
^ we're only 4 employees.. we are the IT department... and we wouldnt do that to one another... my manager is a loser.. he told me he went thru my account on monday
Like verizon pointed out, company email is their property they will use it against you if they have to. Keep your personal stuff out of copany's email. Recently we had to terminate an employee who was using comapny's email to send objectionable material to his home email.
why is it company's property if your correspondences go through your name? would it be legal for the company to send email from your account while you're on their payroll?
Ravage, its your name but company owns the digital property, domain name, disk space, software etc. Without getting into nitty gritty, here is an example,
Let say I work for abc company. My email will be [email="[email protected]"]kaleem@abc.com
abc.com is owned by abc. It does not matter what you put in front of @...its all abc's property
Kaleem.. yeah i know, a lawyer friend explained the situation to me..
yeah.. I think its time for a change though.. 4.5years is a very long time.. i feel sorry for the guy whose been here for 6 years and is supposedly the managers "friend"..
kingshah, yeap... aussie... why?
im so over it...
p.s Kaleem ur signature is cool... my mums always singing that
hm.. i see kaleem. but they cant use their property to cause you harm, for example misrepresent you.. right? dunno .. i just doubt they can do anything they want with it.
similarly, if for example, there was no prior agreement regarding the ways that account could be used as regards personal stuff, couldnt there be a legal case for her (losing information/valuable contacts/work related stuff)
