Power tariff to be raised by 31pc
By Mubarak Zeb Khan
:
:
Mr Qamar said that the electricity tariff would be raised by 31 per cent, but its notification would be issued after the presidential election.
:
:
Mr Qamar said that special monitoring arrangements would be made to ensure proper supply and distribution to the end consumers. He said the target of the package was the poor and low-income people.
I left out other parts of the article as well as title of news and posted as separate thread.
So its because of KESC's negligence.... Anyone know who runs the show at KESC?
Mushy sold it to an Arab company, wiped it's debts out as well..they madea profit and sold it with a debt of almost a billion dollars after 3 years.
Which arab country? Which country?
Mushy sold it to an Arab company, wiped it's debts out as well..they madea profit and sold it with a debt of almost a billion dollars after 3 years.
Re: Electricity crisis deepens in Karachi
According to my family in Karachi load-shedding has been reduced to a minimal, may be 2-3 times max with an hour or less for each time :k:
But how did they manage to reduce the load-shedding now? ![]()
I guess we jinxed it :bummer:

Karachi faces massive power shortfall
By Our Reporter
KARACHI, Sept 14: Prolonged power outages triggered by the tripping in one of the high-tension circuits and shortage of about 700MW caused by reduction in generation by the KESC sparked power riots in several areas of Karachi on Sunday.
According to sources, the problem of prolonged disruption in supplies was the result of alleged theft of a conductor of the EHT circuit between Baloch Colony and Lines Area.
The problem of the massive shortfall was a week-old one but the utility failed to solve it because the management was trying to save money on furnace oil and was operating its plants at much below their capacity. They also did not get supplies from two IPPs — Gul Ahmad and Tapal. And the government also did nothing to address the problem.
People aware of the problem stressed the need for immediate government intervention and severe corrective measures.
Vast areas of Karachi were without electricity for more than eight hours during the day as the utility tried unsuccessfully to keep the overloaded distribution system going.
Agencies add: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad has taken notice of the power crisis in Karachi and contacted Minister for Water and Power Raja Parvez Ashraf.
He had a detailed discussion with the minister and conveyed to him the concerns of the people of Karachi. He called for supply of more electricity by Wapda to the KESC.
The minister assured the governor that the water and power secretary would be in Karachi on Monday and take steps to improve the situation.
Many other towns of Sindh have also been hit by power outages.
Protests were held on Sunday in Hyderabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Naushehro Feroz, Garhi Yaseen, Khairpur, Badin, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, Nawabshah and Mirpurkhas.
Loadshedding has crippled business activities in Nooriabad and Kotri industrial areas, and affected small industrial units in Shikarpur, Sukkur and Hyderabad.
Re: Electricity crisis deepens in Karachi
We are returning to old ages. All people are callous here - the govt, kesc and the people - all of them are responsible for this.
Re: Electricity crisis deepens in Karachi
The rise in temperature due to cyclonic activity near Bombay resulted in rise in electiricity consumption which KESC unable to supply.
I was told that the temperature in Karachi hit 43 C
and with this kind of load-shedding, life is really tough!
Re: Electricity crisis deepens in Karachi
Not that much tough. People have become too luxrious. Once in an area, electricity is restored, they go on a spree to waste it as much as possible.
Its quite unusual for the first half of Septmeber. Normally temperature does not exceed 32 C up to Septmeber 15 with cloudy weather. The first Friday of Ramadan was really a blessing with temperature of only 30 C but the last one was 43!!!

Special committee announces power tariff relief
ISLAMABAD: A special committee constituted to review the recent hike in power tariffs announced on Friday that consumers across the country will pay only 60 per cent of their total bills for this month.
Penalties for late payments have also been waived and the last date for deposit of bills has been extended by ten days.
The Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) will issue instructions to all distribution companies, including the much-criticised Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) to make arrangements for deducting 40 per cent from electricity bills.
This relief facility will apply to all consumers - **domestic, commercial and industrial. **
The decision was reached after hours of deliberations amongst committee members, which include representatives from parliament, trade associations, distribution companies and the Ministry of Water and Power.
Headed by Water and Power Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf, the committee decided that consumers should not pay full bills until a sub-committee found the 31 per cent increase to be justified.
Re: Electricity crisis deepens in Karachi
Down with Mush and his policies of 8 dark years. His economic mangers and planners could not even plan for this!!!
Its us people who have to suffer all over Pakistan.
Re: Electricity crisis deepens in Karachi
If we start to switch to solar energy now...a little part of Balochistan can supply the whole need of Pakistan energy... :)
Most of Pakistan electricity comes from burning fissile fuel, especially crude oil. In July and August, crude oil price touched $140 a barrel, so price of electricity production gone up.
Anyhow, today crude oil is selling at around $65 a barrel, almost half of what it was in June/July 2008. So, high price of electricity and petrol that government decided to charge couple of months ago are not justified. Actually, today price is substantially higher than last year because government has taken away most subsidies and due to rupee devaluation, else crude oil price is lower than last year, and thus Pakistanis should pay lower electricity bill and petrol price what they were paying last year.
Latest news is that crude oil price has fallen to $60 a barrel. Here is graph showing how crude oil price behaved during last one year.
Re: Electricity crisis deepens in Karachi
Saleem Pai , Oil even fall to 30/barrel, it will not affect until and unless Kala Bagh Hydral power @ 20 paisa/unit will not be available. today we have 8 Rs /unit by chors like BB and Zardsari in 1993-1996 era projects .
Koi Altaf Hussain ko Karachi lai aai. London mai baith kar Gul Charrai ura raha hai, Karachi mai 20 20 ghantai kee load shedding daikhai. yai apni a$$ sai koi power plant lagai. kyuakai Kala Bagh tau Sindh Dharti kai sath Ghaddari hai !
I would call it mismanagement at its best...
last 8-10 yrs i have seen all chors and dakoos coming out openly and looting ppl like never before..
but i think its climax of everything... the place where i come in pakistan i have seen load sheddding of 18 hrs daily..with no let up
First it ws sugar crisis where all chaudharies and Mush lovers made millions
Then came Atta crisis Then came Fertilizer crisis (in agri sector) Then came Electricity crisis and the Water crisis..
I wonder where this is gonna end...
I wonder who developed this technology ![]()
