Alright. Let’s take a deep breath, and here it goes:
Looks like this is a slow painful death of left wing politics in Britain, perhaps a gradual end of Welfare state as well. With SNP virtually clean sweeping Scotland, Scottish Independence is back on the cards. It looks inevitable now. It’s a repeat of History actually, we are back to Gladstone era where Irish MPs started to make their way in Westminster and Irish nationalism became a more potent and structured tool, thus making Home Rule an imminent reality, or at least a never ending debate.
Labour really needs to go back to its roots - be more radical, principled and confident and open about their left wing politics, and choose the right leader. They need to ignite that certain passion and hope which gave SNP their astonishing surge. Perhaps time to call David Miliband back, now they have lost the giant amongst men in their ranks - Ed Balls. Their leadership options are scarcely limited. The only hope for them is to start working on the grass root level like the good old Labour.
What are peoples opinions on George Galloway losing? I am absolutely ecstatic that he lost. He has really shown what kind of a politician he is during this campaign. Playing dirty tricks. I am not a fan of Labour or the Tories but I am glad he lost. MQM supporters are thinking he lost because of his “campaign” against Altaf bhai, hahaha. Silly people.
^ The UKIP’s case really strengthens the Electoral Reform lobby’s argument. Scotland has 4.4 million voters and they get 59 MPs, in England, UKIP get 3 million votes and just one or two seats. They got two million more votes than SNP, but 55 less seats. This really validates the argument how first past the post system is so flawed, and how it holds back parties like Green from breaking through. But at the same time, I think the only reason Britain has managed to resist the extreme right wing invasion of the parliament is by not having the system of proportional representation.
Inefficiencies in every market have to be eradicated - before there can be creation, there must be destruction. Thank god labour didn’t win, they spend by taxing those that work hard and do well to subsidize chavs. I think we should privatise the NHS while we’re at it and cut back public sector jobs by about 50% to really make our economy leaner and meaner - this will mean lower tax bills for the private sector. Taxes are too high.
We need an agreement similar to the one Switzerland has with the EU, based on free trade - none of the other human rights crap or immigration. Have you seen how many immigrants there are in this country. Christ! London seems like a foreign country sometimes.
