So while results are still coming in, let partisans of all stripes acknowledge that they were all wrong in their predictions of rigging and massive fraud.
Come now, lets appreciate the good conduct, recognized by virtually all observers, of the Pakistani establishment this time around.
I’ve seen coverage on Pakistani media, on Al Jazeera, and western channels, with observers vouching fairness. Kudos to Mushie and co :k:
Re: Elections 08 : Great Elections or the Greatest Elections?
Pakistani ppl have shown their power by Voting such losers out. So called heavy weights of Pakistani Politics have lost in their home towns by new comers. Primarily Women have contested on Open seats and have beaten big names of Pakistani politics.
Re: Elections 08 : Great Elections or the Greatest Elections?
The game is just begining. Can Musharraf stand a PM who will not be as lame duck as Shoukat Aziz ? He will look for the first chance to sack the elected government and play some other game. My guess. We all know this game has been played for years and so many times.
Re: Elections 08 : Great Elections or the Greatest Elections?
there will be plenty of threads on what Mushie should do, and the way forward for those winning. Clearly the results are bad for him and his chosen party.
At the same time, I was one of those who had written these off as a sham process like the referendum, where the govt will rig to get a hung parliament, triggering massive dissatisfaction on the streets.
On the other hand, we have a day where there was comparatively little violence, conduct of polls widely deemed fair by many external observers, a reversal against many prominent names, and celebration on the streets.
Re: Elections 08 : Great Elections or the Greatest Elections?
As I said I've seen multiple media reports. GEO, ARY commentators have said so. Al-Jazeera had a foreign elections watchdog representative in Islamabad who categorically rejected any rigging. There is then the small matter of the bigwigs who lost, if the government were to do any rigging "conventional wisdom" was that it would engineer a hung parliament and retain PML(Q) as a credible force, which just hasnt happened. My relatives who've voted vouched for the fairness in their stations.
There simply is no basis for saying there was any rigging.
Re: Elections 08 : Great Elections or the Greatest Elections?
No doubt elections went very well after 1970. if any party managed to grab 2 third majority, they can simply impeach Mush.
Lets see, what PPP & PML N will do in coming days!
Re: Elections 08 : Great Elections or the Greatest Elections?
God Bless the Free and Fair elections. This has further strengthened President Musharaf's position, which will win him even more plaudits not only from the political parties in Pakistan, but around the world for continuing to deliver on his promise. :D

Whatever happened to 'If the turnout of Elections is 'unfavorable', i will resign'? :D
Re: Elections 08 : Great Elections or the Greatest Elections?
Truth be told, many Guppies believed that these elections will be a complete farce. Some individuals believed that these elections would be the first step towards Pakistan moving into anarchy. Whatever the results, who ever the winner, one person who must be applauded is Musharraff. He may have done controversial things in the past, but by having free and fair elections he showed his true colours today. He really does work for the federation...and he's not hungry to cling on to power as much as people say he does. I've said it before in another thread, but I'll say it again...Bravo Musharraff...for respecting the people's decision, for bringing in the new era of politics in Pakistan, and bravo for letting your enemies have a fair chance in winning. It would not be an overstatement to say, that Musharraff is the only politician who has ever allowed his opposition a fair chance.
Re: Elections 08 : Great Elections or the Greatest Elections?
Hold on guys. Free and fair elections, so far so good. But this politics is such a dirty game. Lets keep our fingers crossed that our politicians may act sense this time finally. Ameen.
