Electables continue joining PTI

Delawar JanSunday, November 20, 2011

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) seems to have sustained the pace of its popularity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as prominent personalities and politicians continue to join it and people show their willingness in discussions to vote for it.

The party is getting stronger as people continue to join it.

The Imran Khan-led PTI that had hardly any elect able candidates in the province a year ago has now several politicians who have the prospect to win seats and more are gearing to join it.

Though it gained approval among the people fed-up with the established parties and national leaders over the last two years, the Lahore rally provided a big fillip for the party’s prospect of electoral victory. More than two weeks after the rally, it is still the topic of discussion not only among the public but also the politicians. The debate whether a rally can make a party big is ongoing.

Iftikhar Khan Jhagra, a former PPP provincial minister, recently joined the PTI, providing the party a candidate capable of winning election. Having a checkered political career, Jhagra is confident of winning any seat - provincial or National Assembly - in the coming polls. He had won provincial assembly seat KP-9 in 2002 when the MMA candidates defeated heavyweights of politics but lost by 210 votes in 2008.

Though he said the party would direct him whether to contest election on the provincial or National Assembly seat, he believes he could stand as candidate on PK-9, NA-3 or NA-4. “A large number of people have already joined PTI here in Jhagra and others are approaching us to make public their affiliation with the PTI,” Iftikhar Jhagra told The News. At the time when he was talking to The News, he was at a corner meeting in Joganrai where villagers joined the PTI.

“Previously, only young people had the tendency to affiliate with PTI, but now senior citizens are also joining the party,” he added. Jhagra said he would turn up a “great number of people” who would enter the party fold at the November 25 rally in Jhagra where Imran Khan would deliver an address.

Former Intelligence Bureau Director General and PPP leader Masood Sharif Khattak, who comes from the southern Karak district, has also joined Imran Khan’s party. He contested election in 2002 from NA-15 but lost to MMA’s Shah Abdul Aziz. The PTI lacked a base in the southern districts but with his joining, it gained a toehold in that region.

He could be fielded by the PTI in Karak for the lone National Assembly seat from the district.

Yaseen Khalil, a former nazim of Town-III in Peshawar, has also joined the party. In his KP-5 constituency, the PTI workers are overconfident to win the seat irrespective of the candidate’s influence.

The PTI’s mainstay in KP until now was Asad Qaiser and his team of young activists. He and crowd-puller Imran Khan were holding public meetings but now known politicians like Jhagra and Khalil who are organising gatherings, at least in and around Peshawar.

The party has issued a schedule for public rallies where politicians from other parties will be announcing their affiliation with it. Among them are ANP’s dissident MNA Khwaja Muhammad Hoti and PML-Q’s veteran leader and former federal minister Nisar Muhammad Khan.

Khwaja Hoti’s son, Omar Farooq Hoti, has already joined the PTI. Reportedly, the former has been waiting to win a promise from Imran Khan to make him the party’s provincial chief. The PTI has resisted his demand as it runs the risk to alienate the loyalist party activists who stood with Imran Khan through thick and thin.

Khwaja Hoti is expected to announce joining PTI on December 16 at a public meeting with Imran Khan in Mardan. But an aide to Khwaja Hoti created doubts about his decision. “December 16 is many days away and the political landscape might have changed by then. Who knows he might join PML-N,” he said. Khwaja Hoti could not be reached for comment. Nisar Muhammad Khan will host Imran Khan in Charsadda to announce his joining the PTI.

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

whats the point of "electables" when imran said he will give tickets only to young people who have no prior past of being involved in any kind of corruption... i hope he sticks to his words and do not turn PTI into another PMLQ (for now its fast becoming one)

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

The original plan was to groom activists of PTI in constituencies, have corner meeting, connect to the people, deliver the message and prove it by our character to the people that you are one of them... that was some thing which had lots of appeal and road was leading to the CHANGE, where the real leadership from the people at the gross root level will emerge... but then suddenly, everything changed, and all the corrupt and rejected politicians were portrayed as electable... and was brought in the party.... now i wonder how come these people who have been never loyal to the country's interest or to their party would be do what IK is saying from last 16 years....

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

If God does not shuts his door on sinners and remains willing to accept them whenever they repent, than why we, human beings, should have a stricter approach? What is the gurantee that if young and never-seen-before people are elected, they will not do what we hate about seasoned politicians? It’s time to firmly stand by someone who is promising change. A strong leader can make things happen in his own way. But if you start wavering from now, than nothing is going to change ever. Imran derives his strenght from us, let us at least give him a chance to freely do whatever he is doing. In any case, nothing could be worst than what we have at this point of time.

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

^^two things

1) How you multi-quote

2) The newer person can be corrupt but more chances are there that he will not be as corrupt as the existing ones, agreed on this but the corrupt person, with the long history of corruption can be innocent... that is hard to swallow...

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

Amal: if he derives his strength from us, why not do what we want? when you say give another chance to those seasoned politicians, why it has to be under imran khan? why not continue the chances for unlimited number of times under zardari/nawaz/altaf etc? when these seasoned politicians can suddenly become all good and patriot and honest, why not zardari/gilani/nawaz/altaf become one?

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

If you want them to give another chance under Sharifs, Zardaris and Chaudrys, than you first have to testify that these leaders are not corrupt anymore and will provide clean leadership to their cadres. Can you give such a testimony for any of these leaders? At least now, we can say something like that for Imran. I don't know if he will succeed or not, but I am sure he will at least try. But I cannot imagine such a try coming from Zardari.

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

It is repeating the history of 2002.
Nothing changed.

Press the first button on your right with a plus (+) and quote sign. Once you hit that button, a tick mark will appear alongside it. Keep pressing as many posts for multi-quotations as you want. And once you are done, the last reply which you want to multi-quote in your reply, hit the Reply With Quote button. That's second from the right. That's it :)

If he doesn't have electables under his wing, we say that Imran is failing. If he lets them in, we say he is compromising on his promise. We need to give the guy some room and trust him for his strategy. Under a captain, individuals do not devise their own strategies and believe in their leader's plan. That's key to success :)

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

bhai saheb i'm not asking for or issuing any kind of non-corruption certificates here... the simple point i'm trying to make is how you are ready to give the same people a second change when they joined PTI, and are not willing to give others similar and equally phony/dirty politicians the second chance if they remain under zardari/nawaz? (doesn't mean i want to give them a chance either) whats the criteria here? only joining PTI? wow thats amazing, by joining imran you become all clean? who's "testifying" here that these leaders are not corrupt anymore?

what made you think mehmood qureshi and mian azher etc have become non-corrupt leaders overnight? what about the laghari brothers and others like them ready to join PTI or make their new cult and then join hands with PTI? i fail to understand the logic here, only because Imran has never got a chance to run the government and only because these thieves have joined him they should be considered all saints and non-corrupt

i dont have any problem with imran (as far as corruption concerns, not in certain policy maters though, i may not agree there) just in case if you dont get my point, its these people whom imran is welcoming into his party and his lovers calling them electables, like there are not good people left in our society that only these crooks and thieves are to be nominated and elected

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

Azizi, if you don't have any problem with Imran, than let him do what he thinks is the best way to move forward. Tell me honestly do you have any alternatives?

And you missed one of my points: *Under a captain, individuals do not devise their own strategies and believe in their leader's plan. That's key to success. *

Re: Electables continue joining PTI

The problem is that many of immi's supporters are confusing the cricket team with running a country, which are completely a different thing. You can screw up in cricket, but if you screw up the country then then there is nothing left. Imran is not GOD that he will monitor each and every person, so a corrupt person if he or she gets a ministry, will do what comes natural to them.

I mean look at musharraf and how pml-q screwed things up for him. Musharraf's first ebb in popularity was working with the shujaat brothers, which replaced his capable team from 1999-2002.
