Eid Milad un Nabi Festivities

Re: Eid Milad un Nabi Festivities

well its permissible for them to celebrate rather then fast, or vice versa

and its permissible to light up the Mosques, and spend money on the event

they are not doing it just for sawab, they are just taking part and leaving what Allah bestows upon them to Him Subhanahu wa ta’ala

are you calling me a mushrik? All my opinions can be appreciated from Quran and Sunnah, but the takfir here is obviously a sure sign if i uphold my religion you will call me a mushrik, and thus it proves that new sects are different religions

Re: Eid Milad un Nabi Festivities

We used to attend functions related to it, but then stopped as we were told that there is no basis for celebrating the birth of the Nabi :saw2:. It wasn’t done in the time of Nabi :saw2: himself. The sahaba, who practiced deen and fulfilled the right of loving Nabi :saw2: more than we ever could never did something like that. I don’t have any beef with those who choose to do it, but those are my reasons for not participating in this kind of thing. Though my family and I stopped going for this type of thing a long time ago, there have been instances where some aunties did hold a milad function (without telling everyone what it actually was) and just told everyone that they wanted to have deeni gathering. I remember my mom telling me how they said something about having to stand up at some point (maybe for recitation of durood or something), which a bunch of the women there didn’t do.

Re: Eid Milad un Nabi Festivities

I agree. Once these things start, there is no going back. Every year the celebration will be greater than the last and will contain more unislamic things. Not in all gatherings but in a few. This will then be copied by others next year and so on. You can’t help it becoming something like Christmas, with it’s own set of rituals and extravagance which would have just as much religion in it as there is in Christmas.

Plenty of mullahs rely on bidaat (fatiha khwanis, chaleeswan, mahafil e naat, meelad, urs etc. etc.) for their livlihood so they have a material interest in promoting and perpetuating them.

Re: Eid Milad un Nabi Festivities

We must learn to associate fun and happiness with Islam … Otherwise our love will be deficient for Allah (SWT) and RasoolAllah (SAW) … It is okay not observing certain practices … But at the same time to partake in secular parties and enjoying oneself in the process is a type of misunderstanding what Deen means … I found my life missing that 3rd dimension for much of my youth up to my late 20s … I didn’t choose to start doing bidd’a … when I started doing these things … I very carefully saw who was doing them I see many scholars of repute with excellent character doing them, I checked ‘is this limited to our culture?’ and indeed it is widespread, I saw that there is a subtle basis for this too as per our scriptures and lastly … I asked … are we living in a time when it is important? I thought yes we are … What has this enabled in me?

It has helped me move away from finding enjoyment in venues and people who do not remember Allah (SWT) … Who said we can’t have fun? I read Surah Yaseen whenever there is an occasion for it … Birth, birthday, any remembrance and so on … Because there is a position that Surah Yaseen can be given as offering for whatever it is recited for … People who often argue against certain things do so on grounds of saying such things were not done in ‘groups’ … If that is the only reason for saying it is bidd’a, then please think … We are stronger in groups … Who is coming up with these arguments anyway? They need to establish consistent criteria for bidd’a and that was my main problem with the ghair muqalids when I sat with them … However, flip side I believe I have acquired a coherent and consistent understanding of bidd’a … Which gives us more breathing space in our lives as Muslims … And that is what we need … Of course the problem in groups is that they can become elitist and then you will get more problems … But as long as we govern ourselves and remain inclusive, and never forget that Shaitan is trying to sow discord between us then we have a winning format for these days to succeed. InshaAllah.
