I have been to ijtimas, few seh-rozas and an ashraa…and i have to agree with you that it is indeed an innovation in islam.

Same is case with taraweeh, people have made it a compulsory ba-jumaat nimaaz…the thing about which holy prophet p.b.u.h was concerned that muslims would assume taraweeh farz on itself.

all these are innovations, taraweeh is not farz (our people have made it as such), I have been to Raiwind Ijtemah as well which is a yearly congregation. Each and every sect has added some things in the religion. Wahhabis believe that following the Imams is also a biddat, but then they also follow Imam Hanbal and some other people. If we literally take take the Hadith that innovation is not allowed in the religion, then even these things fall in that category. I personally believe there should be debates between different sects, the hatred that has evolved during the past few decades have pushed people poles apart. Solution/middle ground or understanding other people would come through debates, and not by shunning others by declaring them biddatis or mushriqs.
