Am I the only one who has already started thinking of the Eid menu? How come there’s no thread yet? Usually there’s a thread on Eid menu as soon as ramadan begins.
I’m hosting an eid get together for a couple of families. I have some ideas for snacks and desserts, but I’m looking for ideas for lunch/dinner. Pulao, biryani, haleem, nihari, bbq are all very redundant on our menu. I need ideas for something different.
SeaBee...I guess due to the situation in Pakistan, many people are trying to keep the Eid a low key event...anyway...I am sure people will be sharing their eid preps soon.
I will basically go to masjid for eid namaz and will take a dish with me. Thats pretty much it.
how about have a chinese/thai menu or maybe italianish...meatballs, spaghetti, lasagna, alfreado, salad, bread sticks, baked vegetables in red sauce topped with cheese, chicken tenders baked with a crust of italian bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese mixture topped with red or white sauce and some more cheese...and you can make vegetable rice, it will go well with them.
Lusi, I haven't done chinese in a while so I could do that, but one of the families coming doesn't like chinese. Italian I do all the time. Plus when it comes to Eid, all I want is desi food.
Chicken tenders sound good. I gotta try that one of these days. Thanks for the ideas!
You could do a rice dish: biryani. A white meat and dark meat dish. Examples: baked/grilled/broast/fried chicken or chicken karahi/jalfrezi or butter chicken or chicken tikka masala. Dark meat examples: kababs or qorma or mutton jalfrezi or achar gosht or paaye.
And then you can do a couple of vegetarian dishes. Examples: Cholay and Palak......OR......malai kofta and bagharay baingan (stuffed eggplants)
For desert, you can make kulfi. My mom made those for Eid once and they were a hit. You can buy the Kulfi mix....and cook according to instructions. Pour the mixture into small cups...and insert popsicle sticks and freeze. When it comes time to serving....just run the cups under warm water....so the kulfi comes out easily...place on tray and serve. You can make things more interesting by doing a non-desi desert.....ice cream/cake/pudding, etc.
we were in the same boat ceebs... haleem biryani etc etc we just didnt wanna do anymore.. chinese was outta the question cuz there will be 80 ppl (hosting an eid gathering).....
i just went over to zaiqa.com and checked out what they have... havent put together a menu yet but atleast its new stuff you can make. just dont try out the recipes by shireen anwar unless its non desi stuff.
i know im doing mediterranean stuff with a desi twist.

What about Fish Biriyani or even Vegetable Biriyani since you'd have several meat dishes anyways. How about roasting a chicken or 2 whole after marinating in lemon juice/basil(any fresh herbs) and spices...it usually turns out decent...hmm.
Try stuffed chicken breast with like spinach and cheese, you can even coat it and fry it or bake it. Hmm...i dunno.
Slow roasted ribs.
Lahori Chargha
Burgers for burger kids
Very yummy creamy spaghetti
Philly cheese steak sandwich
Two or three kinds of Pies
Mango cake
Sheer khorma , no eid menu is complete without sheer khorma

Tigerlily, share your recipes for Chicken Malai Tikka, and Potatoes with roasted poppy seeds, please. Is Rogan josh something different, or just cooked the way you normally make korma?
