Egyptian people are considered desi right? Anyone i was just wondering if anyone could enlighten me on their traditions adn customs as well as their culture… are they generally conservative people… do they have the arranged marriage system…etc. etc. Thanks

I do know that majority of people do say it about egyptians all around the globe and if they say the same about us, then "Zubaan-e-khalq ko ......."

ok I don't care about the generalizations of their personalities and whatnot. I can figure the individual out on my own. I need to meet an Egyptian person in a week, and I am clueless about their culture and traditions whereas he knows EVERYTHING about pakistani people, the language, food, dress, etc. Can someone please tell me of anything that is unique to their culture or traditions? Thanks :)

Ok.... this is what i know... Hope i am not stereotyping... (which i am anyway)
Egyptians love to brag.
Even if they have something small... they will show as if its the biggest in the world... i.e. they are good marketers.
Their favorite food, or shall we say common food is Taamia.. its made of kidney beans.... like we would eat cholay and naan.
They love sweets... Their mithai is ... Baklava... its nice but toooooo sweet.
They make this nice dish ,,, its called kushri... its made of beans again.
You would find all sorts of Egyptians just like Pakistanis... - some quite religious and some quite advanced... but majority are like us again.... they are quite open minded.
And yes in the Arab world they have the most developed media.
They call Jeem (alphabet) as Geem... So Jannah is Gannah...
and yeah they do have arranged marriages...
Did i forget something... ...maybe they are quite fat also.
Thats all i could think of...

They are not Desi, Desi doesn't mean brown, the term Desi is only for South-Asians who speak Indic languages, even Pathans are not Desi.
Egyptians are North Africans like Tunisians, Morrocans etc.

Actually "Pathans" are the desiest of the desis. There are some Pathans who look identical to Indians, yet claim some type of ancestral link to Afghanistan. I don't mean this in skin color, because many Pakhtuns may be dark as hindostanis.
