Ectopic pregnancy

How common are they?

Any advice, or words of wisdom to give someone who’s recovering from one?

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

I believe about 1% of all pregnancies in britain at least end up as an ectopic..although there is some argument over the stats because many women have "ectopic miscarriages" which if included would dramatically increase the %age.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

A former co-worker of mine had an ectopic pregnancy. It was really sad to see her go through that esp since it was her first pregnancy. I know she has a really supportive husband and family so having them around helped her. This was two years ago, and now she's actually going to deliver a baby girl any day! In the U.S. they have support groups, that would be something you can recommend or offer to go to with the person, or couple.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

What exactly is an ectopic pregnancy?

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that grows outside the cavity of the uterus

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

sounds painful n sad..

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

A person very close to me had one. They are excruciatingly painful. She said it was the worst pain she had ever experienced, worse than childbirth itself.

I am not sure how common they are.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

I can vouch for that Mariah.....its far more painful than childbirth and I'm finding it hard to get back on track since.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

May Allah give you patience and ease your pain, it sounds truly horrible, but its great to see you up and around here :)

Keep up the good work.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

Shahreen.. im sorry to hear this. my sister went through the same, and she was devastated for a while. she is now mashallah very happy with two subsequent siblings of the one that didnt arrive.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

That's great news to hear Ravage. I only know of one other person personally who had an ectopic pregnancy and she never was able to have any more children......something which I would find devestating.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

inshallah that wont happen. i did quite a bit of research when this was going on, and I know that while there is a risk to future pregnancies, odds are more in favour of them being successful.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

Thanks Ravage.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

I think the rate in the US is 2% of all pregnancies and it is the leading cause of first trimester death for the mother.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

shaz, i havent been around for a while, did I miss that you are pregnant?

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

You poor thing. May Allah help you recover quickly…it can be very distressing.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

Sorry to hear about your loss Shaz. Be strong.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

Sorry to hear about all you have been through.

An ectopic pregnancy is fairly rare, and the outcome is not always the same. I have a friend who lost one tube through an ectopic pregnancy and risked having it happen the second time - but her doctors were vigilant and managed to slide the embryo down into the uterus and it resulted in a healthy pregnancy.

I hope you take care of yourself and get well soon.

Re: Ectopic pregnancy

Will keep you in my prayers Shahreen. :flower1:
