EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

with the amount of desi community available to the writers of this show they sure managed to get a lot of major things wrong…it’s sad.

who doesn’t know that you use paan leaves on the hands at the mehndi and not tissues!

And no offense meant but the bride looks like a man in drag…

eww no she was irritating!

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

I know some people who work for the BBC and they might be desi but they don't know a whole lot about their culture or religion, not enough that they can believably work it into a script.

I agree about Amira though.. it's those teeth. She was the lead in Bombay Dreams though, probably why she got this part.

erg, I agree. that afiya girl wasn't funny and can't act.

She was even a ugly bride in the film East is East, (at the beginning when naseer ran out the wedding) hehe

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

^ That’s a little harsh. :aq:

To the poster who said the groom is not desi - i think he is part Indian in real life. :hmmm:

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

^ Hes half turkish half white i think

And its not harsh!! c'mon!!

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

i read somewhere that he's indian and white. i cant believe the tissue thing!! i never picked up on that in the show

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

His name is Oliver? how can he be indian? .......... anyway whats wrong with the tissue thing? I've seen quite a few people do that.

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

his name is Marc and his mum is indian. nothing wrong with using tissue i suppose altho ive never seen tissue used at mehndi, its always been a big leaf

eh?

His name is Marc Elliott, he's half Anglo Indian. Still annoying that they couldn't have found a more desi actor though.

I liked the sister Shabnam.

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

I only watached the wedding episode, but where was Shabnam? How come she wasn't at the wedding?

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

^she wasn't there. she left ages ago coz she wasn't getting good storylines. i think she was pretty though and a likeable character.

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

I watched it for the wedding, particularly to see how they would show the nikkah ceremony. Was hoping it would be good bcos it represents Muslims to the mainstream British society... felt quite let down.

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

I also felt let down to be honest, I think they could have done this so much better if only they had contacted real Pakistani people to ask how weddings are actually done in our culture. To me it seemed as if the nikah was conducted more in the style of an english civil ceremony and they over looked small details such as using a tissue for the mehndi instead of a paan leaf as Muzna pointed out

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

That' exactly how I felt RH, I thought it was an opportunity wasted.

Thanks for clarifying stoppit.

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

eeee flipping 'eck! Will youse lot leave 'enders alone please!

They finally get some brownies after Gita and Sanjay and youse are just going on about what they get wrong!

So what man, not much of Eastenders is real or authentic.

In my opinion, if youse were entertained, thats all that matters. :snooty:

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

I thought it was a let down too, they could of potrayed us in a better light and also it came out that masoods brother tried it on with zainab aswell....that just made us look bad aswell...
Whenever Christian came on the on my mum would nod her head and say "shataan" lol

Re: EastEnders Pakistani Wedding Photos

Ahh well, it wouldn't have been a Pakistani wedding without some pre wedding family drama (Masood's brother stuff).

i dont know why people felt let down, personally i never expected or expect much from the eastenders writers, didnt ever think it was gonna be particularly authentic or accurate. does anyone remember the last asian family on enders? an indian family? just the token brownies for the show. and tohugh the masood family have been better received by the audience, i dont expect them to portray a PROPER pakistani muslim family, none of the people playing the family are even muslims or pakistani after all!

about the wedding, i liked what zainab was wearing, especially the jacket lol, and i agree amira looked a bit odd, i especially didnt like the way her hair was done! she looked much better on the mehndi. i liked that many of the other cast members were dressed in asian clothes though. and omg the baraat dancing round the square was the funniest thing ever, had me laughing my head off,i loved it:D
