After talks with a Pakistani envoy on Sunday, the White House decided to mobilise eight military helicopters from neighbouring Afghanistan. “Pakistan’s a friend, and the United States government and the people of the United States will help as best as we possibly can,” US President George W Bush said.
The Gulf state of Kuwait has pledged $100m in aid to Pakistan, while a plane has landed at Islamabad with the first shipment from a $50m US aid package.
TBK, like I said...I am not in the mood for silly back and forth discussion right now. Please respect that...also do make it a point to read and spell my name correctly.
Agreed with posts heading....but i have heard that US personal/troops are not allowed to enter Pakistan/NWFP/Azad Kashmir as Fundamentalist(MMA) government & people of NWFP are hostile towards US troops.....Pakistan has asked US just to send stuff...& that too only when & where they are indicated...i think this is instinctly wrong...if people/government here in USA are willing to help..... one should accept it with open hands...atleast it would decrease the lingering anger towards each other for long.....& allow Americans to learn Pakistanis closely....
Re: Earthquake in Pakistan/International Relief (merged threads)
lets hope all the aid donated gets to the victims.. i saw two reports on tv where no aid had been delivered so far.
the scale of the carnage is heartbreaking, to be able to see whats going on makes you think how insignificant my own difficulties are that I still have a hard time grappling with.
I have always been pro American on this forum, am whilst there are some problems with its treatment of brown folk, it has a "do good" vibe, which means it always does its share when disaster strikes, anywhere on earth.
Re: Earthquake in Pakistan/International Relief (merged threads)
I'm not very familar with Islamabad, which part of Islamabad was affected the most? , how far is this area from the faisal masjid and the Airport? Also which other areas of Islamabad /Rawalpindi were affected badly by the quake? Do these include the main tourist /shopping areas aswell?
Re: Earthquake in Pakistan/International Relief (merged threads)
i dont suppose any particular area of Islamabad was hit more than others coolmunda, given that the earthquake lasted well beyond islamabad, uptil new delhi even.
the most visibly damaged area, margalla towers, is in F-10 which is about 5 miles or so from faisal masjid which i believe is close to F-7.
dont know if zero point/peer sahawa have been impacted
Pledging aid is different than recieving aid in real...
PS: The Tsunami-hit countries should publish the list of donors...so we can see how much they pledged...and how much have been recieved in real...hmmmmmm
Re: Earthquake in Pakistan/International Relief (merged threads)
ravage, the aid is going to the victims according to the pictures and footage on the tv but you have to understand there are some parts of the northern areas that are hard to get to. takes time n strategy, inshallah the help will reach them.
