Eagle eyed fashionistas....

A little suggestion/help here?

Would it be a wise idea to wear this as a saree?

This is my duputta from my wedding dress. its’ pretty long. i dont have a measuring tape, but i hope these pics help. Its a king size bed if it helps any? :halo:

I’m thinking of having a simple skirt made in this fabric and color, a very plain skirt, thicker than a petticoat but not an acutal skirt, in the party-wear-sense… the duputta is pretty long and very heavy, but its not long enough for a regular saree. It won’t be pleated, just wrapped around the waist and draped over my shoulder, giving the “saree” effect…Would that just look weird, esp if its not pleated? And i wouldn’t be draping it up to my shoulder, just pin it and let it hang, since if i folded it up like on a regular saree, it’d look weird at the bottom…?

I’m also thinking of having a plain suit sewn in this fabric/color as well. It’d be nice to have it with matching kaam, just on the daman and sleeves. Think that wud be possible? to have an exact match? I want it to look as if the duputta and suit came together ya know? Usually i’ve had bad luck when i had a “Design” made b/c they always did a lousy job. NEver follow proper directions :naraz: so i dont know. But i really want to do something wiht my wedding dress, i seriously doubt illl ever get to wear it again as a lengha…and it will just look terrible if i do.

So any suggestions appreciated!

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas…

Okay i have another outfit..i think u call it a pishwaz

Im starting to like how it looks so cute and all..and appreciate the beauty of it (a year and a half after i got it :halo: )..bt i still dont like the sleeves. u think a good darzi can cut those off and make it into shorter sleeves? Or would that ruin the outfit?

I have two other outfits that are long sleeved, the stupid darzan made it that way…I just want to know if anybody has done this, had any big alterations done, if its worth doing so? I really dont like to wear long sleeves, so these outfits are kinda going to waste (not to mention all th churiyan i have :@: ..

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

If I remember correctly, dresses like piswaz have long sleeves. It is mostly long and fitted sleeves, not the loose sleves....

I think your duppatta is not long enough for sari. Maybe you should try it on and see if you can tie a decent sari but i doubt you'll be able to. sowrry

Sorry I am posting as I read your posts...lol so yeah It will look wired if you just wrap it, it will look really wired...lol

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

Lusi, these are fitted sleeves. The other two i have are not fitted and just look hideous. Really aunty-ish.
Actually i was looking at a picture posted in the "mehndi outfits" thread where a girl was wearing that same type of outfit but short sleeves...and i thought it looked quite nice.....so that gave me a lil boost :D

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

lol... you know can always modernize your outfit but i think if you go all traditional, it is long and fitted sleeves. So let's see what other people think. Also if you do get the sleeves cut, get the kaam on the bottom of these long sleeves stitched on the bottom of your short sleeves.

And are the two two outfits just plain shalwar kameez or what? If they look too hideous, then maybe you should get them cut...lol

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

love the peshwas but agree that cap sleeves on it would make it look VERY MODERN and gorgeous@! definately cut the sleeves off to cap sleeve

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas…

Thats true. i might just keep the pishwaz one long sleeved…

This is one of the other two…

This is the other one…the problem is the sleeve is full of kaam, so im wondering if any darzi will do that, aur woh bhi properly…and do something useful with the fabric…like make a bag out of it…or attach it to the bottom of the kameez (cz its plain)…o k i know i have the weirdest ideas ever!!! :o

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

DAMNIT now i dont know!! :(

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

^ I think that looks cute. And cap-sleeves will look lovely on the peshwaaz.

Not sure about the sari.

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

Yeah you can get them short and get the kaam portion stitched on the short/cap sleeves. It will make this dress even prettier. :D

lol... I guess we all are confusing you even more :D

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

And what wud i do with the extra fabric? I just keep thinking...matching pouch... :D

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

i hate pouches! its so gross to see the same kaam on a pouch as your outfit. its not like u haveto wear the whole thaan. i like clutches better

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

Im only suggesting it to put to use the xtra fabric.... so what else do u suggest for it?

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

Hey sara why don't you get yourself a plain shalwar kameez made and use your kaam wala dupatta with it to dress it up. I think it's not long enough for a sari and might look odd if you use it with a skir to give it a sari look. I have a another similar silly suggestion for your kaam wale sleeves. I think you should get yourself a plain white kameez and have your darzi use your kaam wale sleeves as sleeves for your white kameez (maybe you can have him cut your sleeves shorter than the original and also have him make them fitted)? With white kameez buy a red color(the color in the sleeves) shalwar and a multicolor dupatta to go with it. I don't have 25 posts but otherwise i would post a picture to give you an idea of what I am talking about. I don't know if i make sense but that's something i would have done with my old clothes.

hey sara… maybe u could get a plain suit in a contrast colour?.. maybe a ferozi kameez and shocking pink (like the dupatta) shalwar?

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas…

go for this option.. so for the duppata and suit looking alike, get plain white raw silk (unlike the raw silk for men, the one for ladies is a different fabric) and you can get it dye from famous dyers in Pakistan for exact same color. (I have done that for couple of my suits to go with kaam wale dupaatay of my lehnags so I can give you more information for the dyer as well). Also, you can go for bindi-wala kapra (like your rust, green, and magenta duppata that you are wearing in the next picture).. it’s also available in white color so you can get this kapra dye.. it would look awesome with this duppata and you won’t need any kaam on kameez either since those big round bindis come in different colors of your choice (maroon, copper and golden, I guess). Last but not least, I would suggest going for simple shalwar qameez for such heavy duppata so it stands out more!!

ps: All these fabrics are available in Rabi Center Rawalpindi and Rabi Center on Tariq Road in Karachi!!

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

Sara darling, on a second thought, your rust duppata may nto be the bindi wala kapra that I am talking about... if you wish to see it, let me know and I will send you my pic in that dress through email. :p

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

That my dear is not a Paishwaz but its drop dead gorgeous with the sleeves.
The long sleeves look very nice fitted.

But if you want, you can cut the sleeves off, buy matching fabric get a darzi to make you capped sleees and get him to stich the kaam end of the long sleeves on the capped one.

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas…

So you mean just get a new outfit made usnig those extra pieces from the sleeves?

Um…i kinda think it should stay one color..just to let the duputta stand out more?

Now you lost me with “bindiwala kapra” :@:

I’ll call it a pishwaz :snooty:

Re: Eagle eyed fashionistas....

Haha when I was younger I used to wrap my mom's long dupattas and shawls around my body and sling one palloo over the shoulder as well to attain the sari effect, but only did so at home. Wearing that out in public, ermm... I dont think its a good idea.

As for your paishwaaz, its so gorgeous why do you wanna cut the sleeves off?! I think long sleeves look really nice and classy... you look great with the full sleeves in the pic you posted.

Keep everything as is! If you wanna do something with your dupatta, maybe get one of those vest type things made and wear it over a plainer suit in a similar color... and youll still have enough material to keep it as a dupatta.

Just a thought, I dunno im no designer! shrugs
