im sorry if u dont get it.. as i rote before. i have been chillin for four years... my husband is mashAllah very happy or atleast thats what he shows and says. we both talk abt this all the time.. again as i mentioned before he is as confused as i am .. we are always doing each others chores and helping each other and thats fine mostly till there comes a time when None of us wants to do some thing.. i dont kno its becoming TOO hard to explain now.. i am just wanting to kno what is it that I HAVE TO do.. so i dont let him do it or expect him to do it :d.. but again i want to kno these things islamically.. coz other wise it becomes too cultural

thanks for all ur replies i really dont know how to be more specific.. i just want to improve myself as a wife .. or just to make sure that i am doing what i am supposed to.. and i am trying to ask the question again and again in different words hoping SOME One would get it.

No one will get it because you're not getting it...you don't HAVE to do anything! If you two are happy with one another, then let it be...or go consult an alim...see what your told and start abiding by that.

This discussion can go on and on but let me try to sum-up for you (as per my thinking)

bread and butter provider
primary: husband
secondary: Wife

Raising family & taking care of household
Primary: wife
secondary: husband

Now before I get stoned stating this let me clear it, there is absolutely NO problem in exchanging places or taking a step further and helping the other-half in fulfilling his/her responsibility.

but please STOP looking at the relationship of husband-wife with the glasses of "my rights" and "my responsibilities", just try to pitch in with whatever you can. Sometimes going-by-book is not enough to run an organization or relation smoothly.

Agreed 100% - there can't be a black and white distinction as to who does what.

Maybe she meant unpaid?
