your choice of a word is not pleasant to me, and I did not use word “ISLAMICALLY” therefore you should not expect me to provide you reference. However, in past I clearly mentioned that duties were copied from online article. Many of those points are really helpful and can provide wise course of action. I hope you will review your posted comment.

So the wife is not responsible for earning according to Islam.
If she has to earn as per the situation or according to the demands of the husband, can she expect any leniency towards her other responsibilities? But then, she cannot be asked to spend her income on the home but hardly any woman who works will not spend on her home and kids.
The role of a wife is very clear in Islam but because of the changes in lifestyle (especially the increased practices of taking up career by women) has led this role towards confusion.

I think religion can be adapted in our modern world. Where men are staying monogamous and women are starting to work outside of the house. No longer can we say that a womans sole responsibility is her husband and children.
The times has changed and we should adapt to it and not say "but a thousand years ago they did this and that" men are becoming more supportive of their wives and so are woman towards their husbands.
Its not fair to assume that men would not help out in the house because that is not what is happening in the 21st century. It may have happened 20 or 30 years ago but now men and women are working as a team to make the world safer for our future and teaching the values of what our past has told us.

i have been married for four years mashAllah but i am still confused as of what the islamic duties of a wife are??... is she supposed to be like a paid servant like ppl in pakistan think or is she an equal like ppl here in states think??.. i do realize none of these can be right but what IS a wife? What are her specific duties specially according to islam.. REAL confused!!!
The question is. What makes a wife in her fourth year of marriage ask about the duties expected off her?
Islam is all about equality I believe. You give in as much as you could get out. No more, no less.

Babies or hygiene. All take away brownie points, or if you must ask. It takes away time for your wife to serve you like the waitress that you were head over heals for while dining out in a dhaba in Pakistan.

well its just that i some times feel our house hold is some what really confused and some times i feel may be thats how its not supposed to be.. truth be told.. its screwed up to my benefit but i let it go saying.. "Hey what ever works".. but then again some times i feel like there should be SOME guide lines.. as in what i HAVE to do.. and what i can decide on. please note i am not talking abt my rights.. i am actually talking abt my duties.. i think its high time that i take up my responsibilities... only if i knew what they were.. i mean i cook and clean and all that.. but a wife can not be a cook and a cleaner only i am sure..

Have some of your own hobbies? One of my SOs cousin has a card business, plays Skyrim, dota etc with her husband and on her own (she's better at it than her husband apparently) and also does housework. She's enjoying life to the fullest.
My moms friends all have their own business as well as multiple kids some travel with family some travel just with their husband and some just by themselves.
What did you do while you were single? You can read books, learn a new language, take up a new hobby?

I think a lot of the problems that lie with young people are that most do not know how to think for themselves. They follow the system that was made for them and try very hard not to go astray. It becomes a problem when they have all this freedom but they don't know how to use it so they rely on others telling them what to do.

no no.. u are not getting it... my hobbies are ALL i am spending my time on:D.. i do every thing under the sun.. but only the things that i like and that has spoilt me.. now i just wana kno what i should HAVE to do as a wife.. i am looking for some organization in my life i guess... and want to feel like a good wife:D.

then spend time with your husband? go shopping with him? do stuff he likes?
For my SO I talk about games (not that hard since I like them as well), politics and religion but I also talk about my own interests education, culture and the stuff we mutually like movies, tv shows.
I don't know the dynamic between you and your husband but if you two are close why haven't you figured it out already? and why haven't you talked to your husband about this?
You could also make food he likes
