I will be wearing a lite kaam wala gharara on my engagment …iam confused as in being a typical bride or wot i mean i dun wanna look like a bride yet i have ordered a gharara so how many of u vote for having dupatta on my head n how many think i shouldnot have it on my head ( I also have in my mind tht since there will be some elderly relatives as well tau i should cover my head???)
IMO a bride isn't a bride if she isn't wearing a dupatta on her head. you don't need to have a ghungat, but just have it. I mean heck, even the goris have some sort of kapra on her head, and it looks pretty
hmm I had it on my head for my engagement but I think I should've went with not having the dupatta on my head cause later I felt like a bride lol.......well if you're going for a casual yet elegeant look you don't have to wear it on your head, just have it pinned around you and over your arms or something
well on one side am like am having a gharara and i want a classic look.....on the other hand i dun want to be a typical bride no no not the ghoongat but atleast cover my head grrrrr i feel like run away bride abhe tua sirf engagement hai :S n yeah its a gathering of about 70 ppl maybe more

if you want to have it over your head you can have it pinned towards the back of your head more to avoid having a ghoongat thing
so if you wanna have it over your head then pin it towards the back or if you wanna go for a casual look then pin it over the shoulders and don't have it over your head
id say go for a dupatta on ur head! it's ur engagement ceremony.. why should u not want to look the bride, when u almost are??
if anything, ask ur hair stylist to let ur hair loose, instead of doin a typical hairdo with ur hair combed back at the front. that should tone down the severe-bridal look :)
oh oops i thought you meant wedding well for engagement heck don’t wear it on your head. umm it would be nice just kinda pinned…i’ve seen pics of engagements with the dupatta on the head and i dunno then it looks overboard
i didn't have it on my head, but all my sister in laws did when they got engaged.... only found that out after though, also they were sharmeeli and shy but i walked around and chatted to everyone... not sure how that wenrt down....

Exactly ^^^
So go for dupatta like it doesnt effect....... heavy makeup and jewellery will make u look like as a bride.

Cover ur head on engagement is not a symbol of sharmeelapan or anything
its a tradition bahi ...........
If ur putting your hair up, it would look nice to pin in at the back of your hairstyle (i.e. jhoora) and leave it to flow freely at the back, because if you have the palloo (edge) pinned up on your shoulders or arms, it will look all fussy and you would definetly look and feel like a bride.

A duputta over the head is never too much/tooo "bridal"..it would be toooo bridal if you were wearing a full jewelery set, lots of makeup, and a very heavy jora... ..
since i’m not having a dupatta on my head for the mehendi, i think i might go with a style like this, so its dressy but also different from the shaadi day look.
Neither of my sisters wore the dupatta on their heads for their engagements but then they were just family affairs with under 25 people present both times.
haha ok, good point.. but yes, even with a gharara/sharara/lengha/ whatever, if you keep everything simple (hair worn down, light makeup, light jewelery).. it will be a nice engagement outfit :k:
