Dupatta ON or OFF?

So have you guys ever noticed the dupatta off trend on the valima day? Ive seen some brides do that and personally feel it takes away from the bridal look and feel a dulhan possesses on her special days.

Re: Dupatta ON or OFF?

yes, i saw it once, and HATED IT. she didnt look as good as she wouldve if she had it ON. and most agreed with me. EVERYONE was talking about....

bridal look for all 4 days is incomplete without dupatta
1.mayon
2.nikah
3.barat
4.nd walima

Regarding "the dupatta off trend": please clarify. When you say "dupatta off", do you mean that the the dupatta is not on the bride's head or nowhere to be found on the bride's person?

Re: Dupatta ON or OFF?

^ Off the bride's head. She is wearing it in her arms or on her shoulder but not on her head.

Yes, they still look beautiful lekin they dont look like brides. Ya know?

Ah, I see. I guess it comes down to personal preference, like how some western brides choose to wear veils and some choose to forgo them altogether. A bride still looks like a bride to me, regardless of what is or isn't covering her head, but I suppose it's a matter of personal taste.

Re: Dupatta ON or OFF?

Haven’t seen a desi bride without a dupatta, yet! ~ i.e. nowhere to be found on the bride.

Anyways, I think the whole look seems totally off of the bride does not have her dupatta on her head.

Re: Dupatta ON or OFF?

I totally agree w/ you ladies. The look looks incomplete w/out a dupatta. The only time I'm
not wearing a dupatta is on my engagement since I hate the whole dhulan get up for that day. I'd probably wear shalwar kameez and I think dupatta-less in your engagement is fine.

Re: Dupatta ON or OFF?

omg my mom is telling me to NOT wear a dupatta on my head on the valima day as well! she told me to drape it nicely around my shoulders, and curl my hair and wear a teeka.

i was considering it, but i feel like those 3 days of a girl's wedding are the ONLY times when we can put a dupatta on our head....never again in our life we can wear a ghungat...

Re: Dupatta ON or OFF?

Exactly^^

Re: Dupatta ON or OFF?

I've seen brides do that, but you're right, it takes away from the effect of the new bride. It looks nice, but not as special.

My valima wasn't until 2.5 years later, so I did not wear my dupatta on my head.

Re: Dupatta ON or OFF?

I was also contemplating the no dupatta trend, but it didn't take me long to figure the importance of it on your wedding day. Your right, those are the only three days of your life that you will get that chance to wear it and plus, if you decide to re-wear your outfit at another family wedding then how will that look any different, it won't look as special, and years from now looking at pics, you'll look the same as you do in all your other pictures!

I feel like so much of our wedding traditions and rasms are getting lost in modern times. Girls are losing their dupattas, mehndi outfits are just as heavy as wedding day outfits and a few other things I've noticed along the way. I've been trying to keep things as traditional as they used to be as much as I can. (except for the part where I'm planning everything myself) lol. That, I can't really compromise on haha, I want things to happen my way... hmph! lol

agreed! i recently saw a mayyoun bride with a ghoonghat and thot that was super cute.

see, i thought that too, but then i saw a valima bride with no dupatta and she looked like any other guest, honestly, cos it was like a black-tie valima so everyone else was dolled up too. plus her hubby was in a tux so it looked even odder cos he was so formally dressed.

Dopatta luks nice if worn over the head during all the wedding functions…its gives a nice traditional look to the bride! im even against the "off dupatta look"of girls do on their engagements…i personally prefer the mashriki look

Even for engagements? But maybe it’s just mebthen because the whole dhulan look for your engagement almost looks like you’re dressed up for your valima!

yes.

depends on the pitfit. I had a dupatta on my head for the mangni, but I wass wearing a shalwar kamiz ith pretty and delicate kaam.

I have to say tho I refer the dupatta on, I don't think it's worthy of causing such drama. To each their own.

Re: Dupatta ON or OFF?

ghoonghat on mayoon n mehndi + dupata on for barat n valime = perfect bride
