dupatta-free trend

Re: dupatta-free trend

It shouldn't erk you, that some people feel that Islam is ubiquitous in thier lives. I know everything I wear, sleep, eat, say, do etc is with keeping Islam in mind. So when questions / opinions are asked I say what I feel as a Muslim. There is nothing wrong with that. I don't feel judgment should be condoned but mocking people for having faith and them having the courage to live by that faith, at their best efforts is wrong.
I accept people as they are but if they infringe on my beliefs or mock me they will hear about it!

Re: dupatta-free trend

my point is that if you wear a bra(which most of us using GS hopefully do), then for me a shirt/top is sufficient to cover the bosom, so i don't feel the need to put on a dupatta. but if you don't have access to a bra (rural women etc), then dupatta/ chaadar is a MUST!!! so we really can't generalize anything.

Re: dupatta-free trend

What is a bra?

Re: dupatta-free trend

WHAT!? there are such things as bras? :O

Re: dupatta-free trend

It’s slang for bro, but you can only pull it off if you’re black enough.

Re: dupatta-free trend

^ Isn't it pronounced 'prah'.

Re: dupatta-free trend

by 'obvious' reasons, I meant shalwar-qameez-dupatta is a complete set for pakistani dresses for me so if I skip wither, I think I am ruining the set.. while dupatta/scarf doesnt need to be included to western attire to make a 'complete' set since it is top+bottoms for that.

I never intended to go into religious aspects when I started the thread since religion is a personal matter for everyone. I just wanted to know if anyone else felt that skipping dupatta from our pakistani-styled dresses looked like something missing and seemed like breaking the concept of a complete set of a dresses code for this particular style

That's absolutely fine. You misunderstood about the part that erks me completely. I have absolutely no problem in people leading their lives by the guidance of Islam.I can also understand one coming to a defense of their beliefs if they feel their being mocked and undermined for it in anyway. My problem is with the people trying to push their mindsets down others throats whether the topic is relevant or not. It's no ones place right? That's what I meant when I first said Islam doesn't stop people from passing judgement on other people either. To each is own, and to educate is one thing, to judge is another and I think we all probably know some people in our lives that love to preach but don't even lead by their own examples. what you wear or don't wear is your own choice, etc... that's all that was meant by that.

Re: dupatta-free trend

^ makes sense :)

and yes, preaching should be kept separate from from judging and blaming.

Re: dupatta-free trend

It is all about perspective. Big busted women should never go without dupattas. It just doesn’t look decent. The top two pictures demonstrate how the dupatta is sometimes only used as an accessory. It is not serving any purpose whatsoever.

In my opinion the last 3 outfits look fine without dupattas. With or without dupatta, the important thing is to look decent and dignified in whatever we wear.
