Yes Aisha... Swani is over the top!!! N i m not using him..I never thought he would be that expensive when i chkd his website!

Thanks hinayo... i wont mind going to Satwa to check them...Will call n check their location!

haha, yea i know what u meant by 30...it just sounds so believable to me, considering how good urs were!:D

Ah yes, i can't agree with you more. Pros need their own space to work. M still waiting for more quotes...will see how this goes along...N yes, i need to be talking to my fiance about this!:)

I am a photographer and I can cover your wedding for 3000 to 4000 US dollars (depending on the size of wedding events) even though I dont have much detail of your wedding. You will also have to pay for my ticket and from Canada and for lodging. I normally take lots of pics during the wedding for example if it is sikh or hindu girl is getting married, only the wedding day I would take 1500 to 2000 snaps, if it is white girl getting married then only on wedding day I would take 1300 to 2500 depending on the party size. In Pakistani wedding I would take 1200 to 1800 pics on a wedding day, because most of the parties are small or less than 300 people. If you are still inquiring photographers in Dubai to save money and would like to hire one from there then ask them some of these questions that might help choosing the right photographer; 1 type of equipment they use try to get the names of the cameras and other equipments, 2 years of experience, 3 who will shoot and how many people will come to cover the wedding (most of the time these big studios book multi weddings for one given day and they send junior or student photographers on the site, 4, how many pics (average) they will take and when will they give you the proofs and final pictures, 5 number if pics that will be printed, type of paper, size, frames, albums, 6 is the price include all the images (either raw or edited) on dvd's, 7 what is their retake policy (incase damage occur to equipment or pics are totally not acceptable, 8 check at least their three weddings pics in prints as well as on the screen, 9 do not pay attention on the ones hanging on their studio walls because those one's are very special and that does not proof photographers style, approach or experties, 10 get their website address so we can see their style, approach and recommend you one out of those. Some studios show their pictures in the studio or on their website that were taken only in the studio, that is fine but studio work and covering the live event is totally two different things, photographer's studio pics does not proof that he/she will be excellent in outdoor coverage so be very carefull.
we will be happy to see your pics on this forum very soon

Re: Dubai Photographer Dilemma!!

^that is some really good advice you gave there. even though i am not a professional photographer, i am still amateur but still have knowledge about it.

Fingirl do you want names of some more local good photographers?

Re: Dubai Photographer Dilemma!!

mubeens...thanks for all the good advice up there....will surely be useful as m still looking out for a good photgrapher that suits my budget as well. M in touch with a couple n need to decide really soon.

aisha....yes, i would love to check more potogs....numbers, please!!!

Thank you Fingirl and Aisha Dubaiwali....
Hope to see your good pics...
what i recommend to some of my clients in case if they want to tell me some bride+groom poses and they could'nt explain, I tell them to check my previous shoots and/or buy couple of american or asian wedding magazine and check the style and poses and then tell me what they want so we can create a theme. These magazines are also available in Dubai, you can just go to any bookstore in the mall and look for it, I am sure you can find this in the mall of emirates at sheikh zayed road. Once you have those magazines then you can check the style and can show your selected photogrpher and discuss with her/him on the possible styles and wedding theme. If you leave everything on the photographer then she/he will do according to what comes in her/his mind at that time, your height, decorative things available in her/his studio and the time available to shoot.

Shooting a wedding and creating a wedding theme is like creating new tune for the new film's song and every music composer try to come up with new music tunes and styles that matches films story and theme. Film Devdas music director was ismail darbar and Film Muhabatain's music director was Jatin Lalit, both love stories but because film theme was different so the the music theme and style was different.

Sikh or Hindu girl has to wear certain things on wedding day, dress styles are not that flufy and has to wear lots of bangels that she puts on a a day before in the party, with makeup and sevarl things on face and in wrists bride is fully loaded on wedding day and she cannot move around freely or run around and do certain poses, they are less shy and that helps photographers to move them around and take good pics. If I compare this to white bride who wear flufy dress that is not that bulky and heavy in design work and also not much gold and not much on the face and on wrists therefore she can walk freely without feeling any burdon, move to any pose and couple can kiss the way they want for pics to have the good photos. I would put Pakistani bride in the middle of above mentioned three because Pakistani Bride normally have heavy dress, high heel, and heavy dupatta like Sikh and Hindu girl but not as much bangels and other stuff on the face and on arms as them. But she is most of the time shy and would not explore her body front of photographer even though she wanted to do that and would like to open her self like roses open but sometimes others are around and she could not do that.

If photographer doesn't know the difference between the "model", "actor" "advertising & marketing", "bride" and other "lusty" styles, she/he might not do justice with your photo shoot. This is something you can find out in their previous shoots. I have seen so many photographers who take pics of bride in which she looks like doing some washing machine advertising, or just got divorced and sad rather than just got married and happy, looks like street girl or confused, sad and scared, or doing more advertising of the dress for the designer company then showing herself a beautiful bride.
I do take few of these pics on bride's request but we know that this does not fall in the bride category.
The bride should look bride rather than showing her some lusty busty and thursty girl in the photos.

In north america, candid photo shoot is more common and newly wed couple prefer to go out for pictures, some go to studio also (depending on the time available that day) and some just go for studio.
Lots of people go to the studio when they have engagements or day or two before the wedding when they have lady sangeet, mehndi, chuni, pooja, or related functions. Some to-be-couples go in the last week when they try their wedding dresses and have the first run of make-ups. I think this is the good time to have the studio pics and later on wedding day they can go out in the park or at any historical place with the family and friends to take candid shots. Now the onsite studio trend is also increasing and just couple go out for pics and then evening time they have studio pics in onsite studio and other relatives can also have group pics in the same studio rather than going to the studio location.
During recent visit to Pakistan I attended few weddings and in couple of them photo video guys brought their stuff onsite at boy house for three reasons, 1 their studio was far away that you need 2 hours to get there, 2 their studios are not that big, 3 scared of having bride in their studio with lots of gold incase some dacoits happen to come that way. I think due to the law and order situation people prefer to take safe decisions rather than taking risk and ask photographer if arrangements can be made onsite. But you are in Dubai so this does not apply to you, other than setting up studio onsite (in house or in the wedding hall) depending on your wedding setup situation.

I appolize for the long be-es and will be waiting to see you in pics

Re: Dubai Photographer Dilemma!!

well...........what did u think of digital eye studio in satwa?

ah hainayo26...do u have their number, please?

Re: Dubai Photographer Dilemma!!

hinayo...i have called them n got their rates. they are pretty reasonable but need to see their work. Have you experienced them before?

Re: Dubai Photographer Dilemma!!

Yes i completely agree with him, do not leave it up to the photographer because i have experienced that if you do not tell them what kind of look you want etc then they will just do whatever they feel like doing and when you see the end result you will not be happy about it and be very depressed. I am not saying this happens all the time, photographers are professionals and masters of their trade but still if there is something you wish to see, then tell them. Also fingirl i would suggest, you buy the magazine Bandhan which comes with Kohl in Dubai. Both of these are ITP publications and they are amazing. Bandhan is a wedding magazine catering to the needs of desis and is jam packed with ideas and also numbers of photographers and all the nitty gritty information that is needed for weddings. Hope my post helps you.
