No burj al arab or anything! Let's not make it that big a deal! Mall of the Emirates and that's it!!! I think Gina or Poppies has FT's number Umer bhai. I will see if she sees this before I call her up. I think 12th is a pretty swell date but not 12th then 18th for sure!
Please guys it's not the place or food to a certain extent that matters, what matters is that Dubai guppies/guppans are meeting up. Thank you.
Please be pro-active and do not be lazy. I know it's ramadan and it's hard but still!
I SMSed Gina and we have now finalized the Dubai Guppy Iftar Meet.
Venue: Mall of the Emirates - Food Court West, ie the one close to Magic Planet. I think the food options there are a bit better than those in the Food Court East. Date: Friday, 18th September 2009 = 28th Ramadan 1430 Time: Maghrib on that day will be at 6.20 PM (according to islamicfinder.org) Please try to be there well in advance because there will be a lot of rush at Iftar time. Phone number for coordination: I will PM my mobile number to those who confirm their attendance here in the thread. So far that are:
So 18th is finalized.... hmmmm.. dont u think roads n malls will be over crowded due to eid shopping? Since Eid would be just around the corner by that time.
It can be a problem for every driver specially those who are coming from outside Dubai. Just a suggestion. Otherwise If it works for majority then i ll make it work for me. no issues :)

I know about that traffic issue of course. But the 18th really seems to be the only day when we can get everyone together (hopefully).
Because the first 10 stations on Dubai Metro will be operational by then, I have an idea to combat traffic and parking problems that day:
For those coming in from Abu Dhabi:
Park your car at the Park & Ride at the "Nakheel Harbour & Tower" station. From there it'll be one stop to the Mall of the Emirates station (all the stops inbetween will not be operational yet).
For those coming in from Sharjah:
Park your car at the Park & Ride at the "Rashidiya" station. From there it'll be 8 stops to Mall of the Emirates (several stations that are inbetween will not be operational yet).
I guess I need to look for a driver now :D I am not that great in looking for rite turns n parkings. Dubai is already too confusing for me.
I find Abu Dhabi's roads very confusing. I still remember a meeting once last year to which I got half an hour late, because I couldn't find that particular place. I guess it depends what you're used to.
If you don't find anyone else to drive you, give me call once you get close to the Ibn Battuta exit and I'll try to guide you from there.
include my name as well for the iftar get together
&
if possible i can suggest you a very nice place for iftar where i think every one can be more comfortable then being in a mall but its only a suggestion
