I haven't heard of Dua kumail before. What is this ??
dont know what it is....
but am alsmot sure it is one of those BID'AT things....
made up duaas that r of no significance (islamically) but have lots of stories attached....
Armughal, it fine if you havent heard of it, but theres really no need for the baseless assumptions. Dua-e-Kumail is a famous dua, taught by Imam Ali (as) to his companion whose name was kumail. Its commonly read every thursday nights.
Littlehuman, check this link, u may be able to download an urdu version from here.
^what u said, makes me sure beyond doubt that its bid'at....
This is what the link says about this dua:
Imam Ali ibni Talib taught this dua'a to his very close companion, Kumayl ibni Ziyad. Allamah Majlisi says that this dua'a reached Imam Ali through prophet Khizr.
I don't recall any encounter between Prophet Mohammed PBUH and Khizr AH, then howcome this one depicts an encounter between Hazrat Ali RA and Hazrat Khizr AH? Anyone?

If thats whats you believe, then so be it. These days everyone seems to have thier own version of whats bidat and whats not. To each his own i guess. Although, i'm curious how it became certified as bidah in ure opinion?
Changez: Thats the first i've heard about that that too, i'll see if i can find any info on it.
Definately one of my favorite duas. I always carried it around in my bag to varsity and read whenever got time. I love the translation as i think it reflects my life which is full of sins and wrong-doings.
The only DUAS that i need are from Koran and Hadith.

So you know of every encounter that the prophet (pbuh) had with people?
Could there be encounters not recorded in your sahih books that the prophet (pbuh) may have had?
And if so, could he (pbuh) have passed this knowledge down to his chosen vicegerent (as)?

Do you know more than the prophet (pbuh) and the purified ahl-bait in the means to beseech the Creator?
Your words reminds us of Umar bin Khattab who used his own judgement and told the prophet (pbuh) that the quran was sufficient for the muslims when in fact the holy prophet (pbuh) ordered the people to get him something to write on during his last days.
Attempting to know more than the prophet (pbuh) and his purified ahl-bait is a common trait amongst certain sects.

SHAKIR: Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth; a likeness of His light is as a niche in which is a lamp, the lamp is in a glass, (and) the glass is as it were a brightly shining star, lit from a blessed olive-tree, neither eastern nor western, the oil whereof almost gives light though fire touch it not-- light upon light-- Allah guides to His light whom He pleases, and Allah sets forth parables for men, and Allah is Cognizant of all things.

SHAKIR: Or like utter darkness in the deep sea: there covers it a wave above which is another wave, above which is a cloud, (layers of) utter darkness one above another; when he holds out his hand, he is almost unable to see it; and to whomsoever Allah does not give light, he has no light.

Re: Re: Dua kumail in urdu
take care
Just a quick question..was just curious to know if Changez_like, armughal and rehman1..have you guys read this dua's translation.
Will be back later.
Why fight on Duas? I think its the words of Dua that matter. If words are good be it Dua -e-Kamila or anyother Whats the big deal?
There no need to fight over a dua. If you dont agree with it, dont read it, simple. For me though, the dua is one of the most humbling ones i've read and i would recomend it to everyone else aswell.
Rehamn, a dua is what is in your heart, it doesnt have to be from the Quran. This dua puts everything you'd want to ask in the most eloquent way there is. Thats all it is. In no way can it be considered bid'ah.

AND FOR ALL TIMES. KORAN.
