Dry Cough- HELP!

I am just about killing myself with this bout of dry cough. It started with a cold and a flu which is getting better but now this cough wont go away. I cant sleep well because i wake up coughing. My throat is extremely raw and sore now and i cant even make myself cough even though i have the urge. Any ideas what can make this better? The doc gave me some cough syrup and so far its not helping out at all. I have tried honey as well.

HELP me out! :crying:

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

Try http://www.delsym.com/
really good on dry cough. If the cough doesnt improve as stated on the bottle, see a doctor

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

cook a lil bit of honey with garlic and turmeric powder and then eat it. i know that sounds yucky but it does wonders.

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

how about something that sounds a lot nicer than shay's wonder treatment...which i'm sure does work wonders...but you should drink warm green tea with a tsp of honey and some lemon squeezed in it. it's bound to fix your cough in 2-3 days insha'allah!

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

get a humidifier for your place... it really helps to put the moisture back in and ease the dryness and the cough.

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

hey which syrup are you taking? I’ve tried all sorts of yucky syrups but found Theraflu (preferably Nighttime relief) to be the best…just take it at least for 2 days and you’ll be fine. But you also have to drink a lot of fluids. Try Joshanda with chai :k:  It seriously helps too…apart from it you should have warm milk w/o sugar before going to bed and it will really help get rid of the dryness in your throat.

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

best thing to do: boil water and mix in honey, black mirch, white or black tea w/ cinnimon stick.
your throat will not be as raspy and dry.

chew on lozenges and drink lots of room temperature water.

hope u feel better.

best,
Dushwari

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

ohhhhhh  I am having the exact same dry cough, which stayed after I had a flu a week ago :smack:

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

Start taking claritin. Take it every day for a few days.

See if that helps. Also take mucinex (green bottle). It
really really helps with the cough.

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

claritin :hmmm:

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

Yes try it if you keep getting constant cough etc
that keeps coming back off and on. Worked
for atleast 2 ppl I know.

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

I’ve got crazy cough (worst in last 15 years) and flu for past 10 days… I’ve tried all the desi tottkay but nothing helped.

One thing did help for a day or so, try desi ghee with honey at night and don’t drink water after it.

Or maybe honey with kali mirch

Jaan Leva not responsible for you trying these. :hehe:

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

I know the solution, but its a bit nasty so I will not share it here.

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

Namkeen doodh ke ghararay?

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

Dude, if cough syrup aint working , go to the doc!
Uhm, after i came back from pak in september, i had really bad coughing. like i couldn't even walk a few feet without doubling over. it was really a nightmare, the doc prescribed me a few things but what helped most were hte steroids...they were only for 7 days, and the amt to take tapered down. i also had an inhaler, and amoxicillin but the steroids were the only thing that helped the most.

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

Thanks so much for the responses folks. I tried all sorts of home remedies including honey by itself, with some hot water, with some black pepper etc. Also tried kahwa with lemon juice (this usually works for me for sore throat), lemon grass kahwa etc. Nothing worked. The doc prescribed Phenegran with codine which only made me sleepy and i still kept waking up becuase of the cough. I even developed a really sore and raw throat because of the cough. Finally, i had hubs buy me some cough drops by vicks and thera flu cough supressant strips. Those alongwith the cough syrup made it better within 36 hours, ALhamdulillah.

Re: Dry Cough- HELP!

When i had a dry cough i tried pholcodeine, its available over the counter for about £1.90. It works by stopping the urge to cough but is only good for dry coughs as there is no point to them. My cough stopped after 2 days. Maybe you could give that a try??
