**BRADFORD: An airline pilot is in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated while in charge of a plane. **
The 54-year-old pilot believed to be associated with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was arrested from the Leeds Bradford airport last night while making pre-flight checks in the cockpit of the Airbus 310 aircraft.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “At about 10 PM police were called to Leeds Bradford International Airport where they arrested an airline pilot on suspicion of carrying out an activity ancillary to an aviation function while impaired by drink. The 54-year-old man, from Pakistan, is currently in custody.”
180 passengers were on board at the time of the arrest and were taken off the plane and provided overnight lodging in a hotel.
he is NOT a drinker...he drank in protest to N$'s decision to sell 26% of PIA.

He was not flying the plane when caught.
“The exact circumstances of his arrest on Wednesday evening at Leeds Bradford airport in northern England were not clear, although the pilot was not thought to be flying at the time.”
I think he should be thrown behind bars on attempted murder of 180 people. The westerners do drink, but we have never heard of their pilot being caught shamelessly like this.
In another incident police arrested 3 PIA flight stewards in Manchester for misbehaving with a woman at a hotel while being drunk. Drinking alcohol seems to be getting popular amongst the Pakistanis it seems.
Apparently it is not the first time that he has been drunk whilst attempting to fly a plane, presumably the PIA turned a blind eye to the previous occasion otherwise he would not be still flying planes....at last justice will be served. He is supposed to be a son of a former general of Pakistan. There is disconnect between the rich corrupt elite and the average Pakistani person.
it is pretty common, unfortunately. even in the US, pilots are arrested for flying planes drunk once in a while. i've heard of a few incidents of indian domestic pilots showing up sloshed.
