Driving Directions in Saudi Arabia

Salam all,

Can anyone help me in finding driving directions from Dammam to Makkah and from Makkah to Madina, with a stopover in Jeddah…

Jazak Allah khair for all your help

Anyone at all....

You can use http://www.map24.ae

Dammam to Mecca is a 15 hour drive of almost 1300 km.
Mecca to Jeddah is around 1 1/2 hours (ca. 80 km).
And from Jeddah to Medina it will take you around 5 1/2 hours to drive the distance of a bit more than 400 km.

Wsalam
I think it is not that difficult. My very first drive in KSA was directly from Dammam to Riyadh. On the highways signs are mentioned specially about Riyadh , Makkah , SO ask some one about the high way n then u can reach to Makkah.

but what about inside the city . How u will travel inside the city ? coz the way is not that easy inside

Yeah ...how do we get around in Jeddah.... any tips and suggestions... hamain gum naheen hona hai...:S

Re: Driving Directions in Saudi Arabia

just drive to jeddah from makkah and find and keep travelling on madinah road that will take u directly to madinah

That's easy. All directions will be something like, go to the round about with the giant bicycle, make a right, then drive to the big thumb, make a left there and your destinations is some where near the odd piece of art made of old cars and bricks.

Just joking btw :D

Re: Driving Directions in Saudi Arabia

moonshiner, about the 15 hour drive in Saudi, how is it like? Are there frequent rest areas? I mean you dont want to be stranded in an unpopulated area if your car breaks down.

Re: Driving Directions in Saudi Arabia

The guy with the biggest camel has the right of way! :D

Umer, that website you posted, caused my Firefox to freeze, twice. Maybe some font issue? Is it by default in Arabic?

That's strange, because I use Firefox too and never had an issue. And yeah, the default language is English, but I think they have an Arabic option too.

there are many rest areas on the way and they have clean toilets as well that u can actually use. plus they have some really nice food too, i remember once we stopped somewhere between madinah and riyad and we had some great arab style bbq food. i miss saudi :(

First of all,, the distance between Dammam and Makkah is like 1290 KM. The road is a 6 lane highway with some speed checks in the middle. There are plenty of nice and clean rest areas/gas stations, from where you can get anything you want. All the rest areas have toilets, motels, mosque, restaurants, coffee shops and convenient stores etc. The best ones are titled as SASCO..

From Dammam, you need to take RIYADH highway. And then just forget about taking any turn, this road goes directly to Makkah( 1290KM only), you will have many cities in the middle though, especially Riyadh.

You will reach Taif first, which will be your Meeqat area, you will wear Ahram from here, then you will head to Makkah.. Jeddah is like 75 m away from Makkah on the road towards Madina. But watch out now there is anew road which is separately made for Makkah-Madina, so one does not have to go through Jeddah... Again the Road Sign boards are very clear. What I suggest is that there are very good and interactive maps available at all the major airports. I specially liked the 3d map of Jaddah.

you can contact www.sct.gov.sa and ask them to provide you the maps of all the cities.

The only travel suggestion I would like to give is that make sure your car have a spare tyre and a big can of drinking/clean water. Cause the weather is very hot, the temperature reaches as high as 60C ( yes 60Celcius) on the highway.

I am in Riyadh these days, If you need any other help you can always contact me.

Check your PM..

Unless artificially induced 60C is not possible. I have seen highest 54C recorded in KSA.

Temperature records

Re: Driving Directions in Saudi Arabia

BTW, how are you doing this? Do you already live in Dammam, or did they start giving out visit visas now and allowing people to travel inside the country?

Re: Driving Directions in Saudi Arabia

u dont need visas to travel within the country ^

And what are you going to show at their 1000 police checkpoints they have set up? They see a foreigner, and first thing they ask is Ikhama. I think you also need a permit to leave the province.

Well the number of check points is not **1000 **anymore.. there are few now, which are mostly for speed checks.. secondly a permit is no more required to travel inside the country ( its a free country now :hehe: )…

Well, Najim, I dont have any official or proper link to prove that it has reached as high as 60C in the desert. But yes it has been observed by many people working here in the desert.
Also many monitoring stations at SAUDI ARAMCO wells and refineries deep inside the desert have recorded as high as 60C. But these figures are never made public due to some strange policies here in the Kingdom.

Btw, check this article as well.. KSA temp to reach 80 C

Oh wow, so once a person is in the country, no more ikhama checks like back in the day? KSA isn’t KSA without the random Ikhama checks.
