I agree with saeedinpakistan.. Smoking bothers me a lot more than a person who occasionally drinks..
I’m tolerant of it because I’ve been around it and it hasn’t affected me in a direct way.. There are a lot of other things which would dirctly impact me during marriage but an ocassional drink is not one of them..
We love to think that other people’s sins are worse than those which we commit ourselves when the truth is they often aren’t.. In our culture drinking is obviously a social taboo for most.. It kinda reminds me of the way we judge Muslim women who show their legs (when we show our arms in Pakistan.. since when did Allah allow that either?) or the fact that most live in joint families with bils around which is supposed to be ‘death’ in Islam.. It’s kinda hypocritical to point fingers at others and conveniently forget our own sins.. We all do it (well 99% of us lol).. just in different ways..
