Dressing scantily

Hi Gurlz

When girls dress scantily or revealingly - why do they do so ?

  1. Would you attribute to the womens lib thing ? OR
  2. They do so to draw attention for themselves from the alikes OR
  3. Simply to sexcite the menfolk ?

It wouldnt be right to direct this question directly to the girls of pak, where probably the social atmosphere discourages this, but may be the pak damsels who are in the US or in europe.

arey aurat ko samajh sakte hum....to aaj yahan hote...

understaing women....is impossible, kia cheez too ne banayi yaa khudaya....

Afreen hai tere pe...

Suby, well, the Pakistani damsels are no less, believe me. But well, I have no clue as to why they do it and for whom they do it. I believe in live and let live policy, so far as I have set out my preferences and know what my limits are... However, there are different rules for different places. I have friends wearing that in Pakistan, I cared less or lets say I never thought it was my prerogative to tell them as to what is right for them. On the other hand, I would certainly tell my female students (atleast once) not to wear such revealing clothes while studying in a coeducation institution and for men or guys, I just hate it when they leave their shirt buttons open( revealing their chest) its such a disgusting sight.

But there is one thing I would say..Wearing revealing clothes has nothing to do with women's lib, its no criteria to judge how enlightened a women is. You can say that they are liberal but liberated...I believe these are two very different concepts.

It depends on what your idea of dressing scantily is. Do you mean wearing mini-skirts with tube tops (which is on the side of trashiness) or do you mean wearing capri pants with a sleaveless shirt (which can be classy and certainly not scantily).

What do you mean?

I agree with Lost Soul, I don't think it has anything to do with women's liberation. I think girls who dress scantily (like sluts) might do it to gain attention from men, or to simply show off their body because it makes them feel good.

I think girls who dress scantily (meaning skanky to the extreme) do it as a form of rebellion. A lot girls who dress like this are suppressed in their homes and are forbidden from doing a lot of things. Once they get to high school or university and are away from the prying eyes of their parents, they experience their own sense of freedom. They take full advantage of this and go buck wild while they can and conveniently get back in to their respectful clothes when their parents come to pick them up.

I also don't think it has to do with women's liberation. In fact, dressing like this is taking away from the achievements of all women's movements.

And their is nothing wrong with that. They can do what they want. If it bothers some people then they should walk around with a bag on their head.

The only people who shouldn;t wear the sexier stuff are the people who can't carry it well. I would suggest Lane Bryant for them.

I have noticed.. desi girls do it to blend into the western society.. and even in Pakistan.. its soo sad that its hard to distinguish between a paki girl an a Indian girl cuz theyre both dressed the same.. sharm to shaid mar hi gaye hai.. the girls who bare it all and ghoom phir khullam khulla in society are all the "bare log" in pakistan atleast.. aam middle class larkiyan kerna chahti hongi but ofcourse they cant cuz of ocietal pressure from parents and the obligation that comes with being a middle class larki in pak.. However .. there are all the 3 elements u mention but the need to fit in an blend in with the western society plays a role.. personally i think desi girls who do wear all the stuff, liek capris, an sleeveless or a tube top.. its all the same. when ure showin off skin.. ure showin off whether u think its classy or trashy.. n im not for it...

There's a difference between wearing sexy outfits and dressing like a slut. If sluts turn you on, then move to the red light district.

Fret this is not Saudi Arabia..you liv ein a western society where sluts yes..even sluts have a right to walk on the same street and wear what they want to wear. But that is a different point all together.

If someone needs to move..it is you. Move to Saudi..it will protect you from feeling the guilt of your repressed sexual cravings.

Women can wear what they want...and every person has their own definition of scantily, classy or slutty. You are neither the standard bearer of morality or have the fashion sense to define the norms.

Chalsui, of course women can wear what they want, that's not the point. The question was why do some women dress scantily, and of course everyone has their own definition of "scantily". I responded using slutty to be specific in my post. You responded by saying there's nothing wrong with that, so thanks for defining your fashion sense.

it depends on the social enviornment and customs. The reaction you will get if somebody is walking being scantly dressed in a conservative society wont be much diff. if you are in a "burqah" in lets say sweeden.

That is ofcourse the question. WOmen can dress sluttily if they want as well. There is nothing wrong with that. What raises more eyebrows is a woman dressed in a burkha covering her face and all more than someone in a tube top and mini skirt. That to some is just as odd as slutty.

Lussi, that is exactly the point. People when moving to another country need to get out of their midieval mindsets.

^ kawwa chala hans ki chaal apni chaal bhee bhool gaya :)

hey hey, no need to fret abt the specifics. I mean what is slutty for one can be okey for the other. In the end it all boils down to how you perceive a particular thing and , well, one is entitled to have his/her opinion. Suby asked the question and we are supposed to answer that according to what we think , not impose it on others...

MEhnaz I agree with you, capris and sleeveless don't look bad. While I would never go for it, I have my cousins wearing it and well, to each his/her own. I don't think it looks bad, frankly...

Where I find that the dress is such that people get the impression that you are enticing or luring them, then it looks bad...Ok, from a PAkistani perspective, if its a shalwar kameez thats very see through or transparent as much of the material is nowadays, then it doesn't look good either.

Yeah sure if you're Nirgis or Didar, you have got to wear kanjuri clothes otherwise rate kam hojaye ga. But if you're not one of them and living in Lahore, I dont think wearing revealing clothes is a good idea. But like abroad, wearing them could be fun, teasing men is soooo much fun ;)

^Majority of lahori girls are dark and unattractive. Its good for them to be wrapped up as it hides their rabid ugliness.
