dresscode for namaz

If one is wearing clothes that may not be deemed appropriate for namaz and he/she will be offering namaz in complete solitude, is it ok to go ahead and offer salat anyway or wait till one gets home and change and offer it kazaa?

Re: dresscode for namaz

Oh and before anyone gets carried away we r not talking about extreme situations here. its like if someone was wearing a skirt with long boots and upon removing the boots they realise that their ankles or a bit more of the legs are now showing and they obviously cannot pray with boots on, so what should one do in such a situation?

Re: dresscode for namaz

the clothing under all circumstances should be that conforms to covering of AURAH
for men it is atleast navel to knees and for women it is neck down to ankles with hair completely covered and sleeves upto wrists

Now, if you are in solitude then you can offer your Salah rather than making it Qadah for that would be a greater sin to leave its time.

Re: dresscode for namaz

Just start carrying a pair of Socks that will be fine in above situation. Unless you are wearing skirt upto OR above knees.

Re: dresscode for namaz

the msa always has extra abayas and stuff

Re: dresscode for namaz

If we all wore clothes that fit the sunnah/Islamic lifestyle then we wouldn't be stuck in these situations.

This might have some good advice?

Re: dresscode for namaz

Yeah that is tricky.

But think about it, on a side note, we shud be dressed in our best, cuz we're standing in front of our creator.

We dress up in front of our bosses too.

Re: dresscode for namaz

so0o0 tru.

Re: dresscode for namaz

very good question....

im still waiting for an answer.

i keep an abaya with me in the car at all times.

Re: dresscode for namaz

the suggestion about socks is good :k:
They can be conveniently stuffed into the purse or handbag

Re: dresscode for namaz

i guess salaat without proper covering is considered "makroh"....
and praying it after its time is consider "qadhaa"....

i think makrooh is still better than praying qadhaa....

Re: dresscode for namaz

Who said we can't pray with boots on, if you can place a clean cloth where you will make sajda and sit but the boots can stay onofcourse make sure there no visible filth on the boots.

**Boots come off inside a Masjid. but when you travel like in the sand you can keep your shoes on...:) **

Re: dresscode for namaz

Why not pray with the boots on? Is it because it gets really uncomfortable? From what I understand, it is permissible to pray with your shoes on. Provided you wipe off any visible dirt/filth on it.

Given the alternatives, I’d just pray with the boots on unless it gets absolutely impossible to pray in them ( I don’t see how though). And if that’s the case, I’d take them off and pray anyway, rather than making it kazaa. Then to be on the safe side, I’d repeat the prayer when I get home. There seems to be a fatwa out there about it.

edit: Okay Sindsagar beat me to it.

Re: dresscode for namaz

This is probably the wrong thread but can i please rant about how all these women in the masjid cant seem to follow the dresscode for namaz. Arrgghhhhh.

Re: dresscode for namaz

^^ yeah in our islamic center although we felt it was not wise to tell some directly that they should come in the right manner, we did post big signs at the sisters entrance and prayer areas what they should or should not be wearing when coming to the Masallah (prayer area).

Does not always work though.

Re: dresscode for namaz

yes but if the boots are long ones upto knees then it will be hard to wear them and pray.

Re: dresscode for namaz

Cricketplaya, a skirt with long boots covering your legs is perfectly Islamic.

I think keeping an abaya or spare pajamas handy is a good idea. Praying with boots on would be very uncomfortable. i did not know it was permissible while one is not on the road though.

Thanks all of you.

Re: dresscode for namaz

Actually, on the contrary, it is not.

Covering of your body in Islamic manner is not just putting some foriegn material on top of skin. your long boot will reveal the shape of your legs, which is unislamic.

One of the signs of the coming of the hour mentioned by the Prophet:saw: is that women will wear clothes but will still be naked.

Perfect example.

Re: dresscode for namaz

Dude, the boot has it's own shape. Give it a rest.

A shoed foot is hardlly considered bare.

One can site many examples that make that hadith ring true, but a booted leg...you're out of line.
