The last real family Paki drama that I saw
was Uraan, a thing about the lives of passengers
immigrants and PIA workers in all destinations.
I thought it was excellent.
Otherwise, I caught some glimpses
of Aansoo… thats the last one…
but I reccommend that you guys watch
Punjabi stage shows, they are really
funny… trust me.

I just got this drama - Pardah Na Uthao. Even my parents, who aren't avid fans of Umer Sharif, are loving it. Its quite funny - although long with 5 casettes.
I did see Colony 52 - written by anwer maqsood. Good drama - see it if you haven't.
The last drama I just saw now - was Kaanch Ke Per. What a fazool drama! Last time I was in Karachi, everyone was going crazy over it, although for what reason I don't know what. The only reason why I kept watching that drama was for the cute guy who plays Akmal's son. Does anyone know his name in real life? He's so cute! ANd he was acting well too!

I just got done watching Sawan on Prime TV.
Let's just say that was one great great drama. Based on a true story also.
Quite touching story.. I think it should be releasing on tapes soon since it's off PTV now.

Akif-Zeb, you've got a good point there - its what all the journalists are complaining about these days. However, in this week's Jang -The Nation, I was reading some articles in which its been found that ever since some of these Indian channels have been blocked, Pakistanis glued to Indian dramas have started watching Pakistani dramas, due to limit in choice. These people are the same people (not to say you're on of them of course) that were complaining of Pakistani dramas being boring. Now they are surprised to find Pakistani dramas being quite good. So I think a lot of it has to do with the majority of Pakistani public in Pakistan going goo-goo-gaa-gaa over Indian dramas, that they've forgotten to give Pakistani dramas a chance.
I agree w/you that a lot of directors/producers shouldn't be in the field and that they've thrown down the standards, but its not due to privatization of production. Its due to the advertising policies. A drama can be absolutely horrible, but it still brings in money due to abundant advertising instead of viewership. So trashy productions ensue since the money keeps coming in...
paki dramas were cool sometime back but i find them extremely banal and out dated now
