Well......scholars are not doing enough to reach the masses......(i mean .. only if the scholars consider reaching the masses as a necessary thing)

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
No they surely arent doing any sort of mass projects in order to clear misconceptions that people might have against islam. Dr Zakir Naik is doing this as far as i know but the official so called "scholars" are no where to be found.
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
1- We can keep finding reasons to bash others on trivial matters.
2- We make trivial matters huge just to create divisions.
3- We cannot claim to know who has what in his heart when facing audience.
4- So far no reason solid is presented against Mr. Naik.
5- Like I said in other thread, there is a need, to accept moderate people over extremists and fake mullahs (minority) who are engaged in evil work on this earth.
P.S. I am not a 'folllower' of Mr. Naik. :)
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
I find it kind of disheartening that people are saying that "scholars are not doing enough ..." or "where are the scholars?"
If they understood the "role" of the scholars ... and their rank then may be these words would not be said ...
Let me explain to my dear bretheren here ... Scholars are around and used by us if only we seek them out and ask them for insight. It would be against the characteristis of the pious to "actively gain authority" or "limelight" ... They would no doubt consider it something ill-mannered to PR themselves. Rather it shows the state of society that we would rather do everything ourselves or move towards the attractive light shows of celebrity icons ... no longer do we seek consultation with scholars and no longer do we do istikhara (seek support from Allah (SWT) ... rather we are the kings of our own fortune and our intellects are capable of sorting out our affairs ... Only when we can't sort out our own affairs we question ... "where are the scholars?" ...
We need to make them part of our lives ... they won't seek us out ... why should they? They will be good authorities for us ... only if we appointment them as authorities over us ... for sure even the Mahdi will have to be forced to accept bayah ...
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
Why does he always talk with his arms folded, like he's praying 24/7?????????????????????? Also I don't even know why people would listen to this guy after (ra) incident.
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
How does what he wears or what position his arms are in matter.

Isn't the risk of being perceived as seeking limelight/celebrity worth if it means educating the general masses??? Is it not the character/responsiblities of the scholar to reach out to people and spread the true knowledge that they have??
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
Seriously, I don't get this. Why are we comparing Dr Zakir Naik with learned scholars? As far as I know no one's going to him seeking help on fiqh issues. Rather people look to him to explain why Islam is the right religion for them. The duty he's carrying out is a LOT different to what scholars do. Why can't we let it rest at that? Once again, why all the hating and bashing? I never watch Islamic programmes on tv, but when I see him on I do stop and listen. Isn't that a good thing? Judging from the replies in this thread, you'd think Dr Zakir Naik was a kafir or a hypocrite. What the bloody ****.

Peace NomiCA
When we have fulfilled our duties then we should ask others about theirs ... This is all that I am saying. Also, it is important to note that many of the awliyya are hidden from the "limelight" by the graces of Allah (SWT) to protect them from harm ... Every pearl is hidden in a clam, which is hidden in ocean in the lowest part under the surface ... They are not easy to find and in this parable is a real answer to your question ... If we don't step up to the mark then the agents of Allah (SWT) will be lifted away from us.

I agree with this entirely it would be wrong to compare the two, but that is what I was doing to demonstrate a point ... I think the thread just went in that direction. Dr. Zakir Naik has indeed done a lot of positive work for Islam and Muslims.

Scholars are their but promblem is some people want them to interpret Islam according to choice of their Nafs and that will never happen
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
and punishment of murtad is death in Islam
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
This might be unrelated but as we are talking of aalims etc, I highly recommend watching TV program "Deen dialogue" (on TV one)
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
I think everyone has their own point -
one can say yes Dr. Zakir naik is doing a good job because he is preaching and is a very knowledgable man who knows the Quran welll therefore deserves respect - Good point and also true
Another can say, he is giving a wrong example of Islam by being on television (which is also called "shaytan box" by some) and not dressing according to sunnah (because we do expect that from someone who is preaching Islam - as you would if you went to your Masjid and your Imam was wearing a suit and tie)
Depends how people look at it. He can't be disrespected for the work he does but at the end of the day it is from Quran and Hadith

That one really takes the cake. There is no 'sunnah' dress code in Islam, just a dress code that tells you to dress modestly. It doesn't say whether you must wear a thobe or a shalwar kameez or a harri pagg or jeans.

LOL ... Peace madinahme
Out of all the things that you picked up in the discussion above is criticism about Dr. Naik's dress sense and television appearances then you've actually spotted a sand grain and missed the boulder in the conversation ... Anyway it doesn't matter.
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik
I liked him, then he supported the Taliban and I stopped listening to him.
His manner of speaking is quite factual, a quality many admire, he makes amazing points and is very knowledgeable but for me religion is where my heart lies and I much prefer listening to more 'spiritual' people as opposed to just knowledgeable.
I guess it just depends on what you prefer and where you feel most comfortable, for me it's very much the sufi way of life, for his followers/students it's the way he makes a point then supports it very quickly with '...book, surah number this, ayah number that'.
I do however feel that he takes all hadith/ayah at face value, I've never seen him explain multiple translations of whole sentences (as opposed to different meanings if one word), his talks for me never really reach the heart. I guess that's just me :S
I'm not sure, but I'm happy with the scholars I follow so all is not lost :)

lol sounds a bit stupid now, doesn't it? I was trying to give an example
@rizla86 I meant that sunnah, not fard, meaning what the prophet wore.
Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

Replace Naik with tahir-ul-qadri and watch the whole salafi brigade get nazil here en masse :D
I just don't care if people have differences as long as they don't go around killing people for it. Some sects are more prune to such extremists than others so that is that.
