Dr. Zakir Naik

Why do people admire him so much? I haven’t heard him much, just a couple of times, and I noticed that he is able to attract many non muslims towards Islam.

Anyone know his qualifications?

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

No disrespect intended but because he is on TV and falls under infotainment category.

To reach a real alim, you need to go their masjid and take your shoes off and show respect. You can listen to Zakir Naik in you pajamas while eating pop corn and when you dont want to, you just turn the tv off.

Have not you noticed that people consider Amir Liaquat an alim too. This is the sad state of our loyalty to our religion.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

But he is a very educated person and knowledgeable in religious matters. He quotes passages from the Qur'an to give references to his statements. He leaves people speechless, and really, he's actually enhancing the image of Islam. So how can that be bad?

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

so he should be treated as a preacher, not as a scholar.

I can recommend medicine to people's common ailments with 99% accuracy, but that does not make me a qualified doctor.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

TLK not you  Please no one ask him medical advice. But i see what you’re saying :hmmm:

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

I think that's a ridiculous notion.

I think restricting how we get Ilm/Enlightenment/Education/Guidance is one of the reasons Muslims and religions in general are suffering and there is no consensus on religious matters amongst Muslims (Let's take Islam because its the majority religion in Pakistan and on GS). We give these people lofty praise and position and they are no where near in touch with everyday life and the needs of the times we live in. What we need is people who can stir emotions and teach us things no matter where they/we are. Conditions applied to the place and behaviour of where and how we learn about our religion are nothing short of encouraging blind faith by granting such people a holier than thou status.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

^Exactly. The guy is reaching out to Muslims/non-Muslims through non-conventional methods and suddenly he's infotainment? As far as I know, Dr Zakir Naik never claimed to be a scholar, he always comes across as someone who takes his duty of dawaa very seriously. People who have this notion of him being an alim/scholar are also wrong, Dr Zakir Naik has never passed a fatwa on the basis of his authority. Having said that he does have vast knowledge (mind boggling even) when it comes to the content of Quran, sunnah and comparative religion and he's a good orator who's using his skills in a positive way. I guess people admire him because of his ability to logically reason through any misconceptions non-muslims have about Islam and is able to explain it more clearly.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

Word. He refers to himself as a Da'ee, not an Alim.

P.S. I have objection to some of his views but that does not mean I can knock on him simply because he is on TV. We have 'Armchair Alims' everywhere, he puts a face to the name and comes out in public to present his views. Again, I have no allegiance to him neither do I hate him.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

his stuff is logical.when he discusses something,he states facts.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

He’s a qualified doctor, inspired by Ahmed Deedat to become an orator on Islam and comparative religion. Some are in awe of his manner of dawah and some have called him a kaafir.

The bottom line is, he isn’t blowing people up, just preaching about a book, I don’t have a reason to hate him. I could be picky and focus on the bad traits and call him an attention-seeker, a hater, biased etc etc but then I might as well hate all ignorant preachers n scholars… waoh, that’s way too many to hate. Time nai haiga. We’ll let Allah mian be the judge of his sincerity.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

The reason so many people admire him or follow him (especially in India) is because he has memorized all of Quran verses by heart and can bring up any verse and translation number from his memory, and he has memorized all of the Bible and can bring up any verse and number by memory as well.

I don’t like this guy, he has twisted logic and is very tricky. If you’re a Muslim you will not want to support this guy because he is a bad role model for Muslims and Muslim woman. Don’t take my word for it, do your own research and form your own opinion.

For example, see this video of him saying that Muslims who become non-Muslims (apostates) deserve death penalty and he is comparing that to treason!:nono:

It’s not just this video, there are many other videos where he has twisted logic and makes up facts.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

He is a person who discusses religious affairs with reasoning.
He does not ask people to convert by force.
He appears sincere and pleasant. Not many people have ability to contain emotions.
He has a background of his ideas/his sect or his teachers. These ideas can be discussed and argued.

Nothing wrong with listening to him and search on own to confirm what he says.

Where is the responsibility of an individual?

Instead of following or refuting one person all the way, why not search various sources and choose what makes sense the most?

P.S. Never understood why he wears tie/suit almost all the time?

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

unos, can you let us know your Aaqaid?

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

Lets stay on topic here. That video above is enough reason for me not to not support him. But that's my opinion believe whatever you want. Do your research and form your own opinions.

Oh, and relevant (funny spoof video of Zakir Naik – disclaimer: video is made by a Muslim who does believe in Islam, but just wanted to have fun):

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

I don't believe in any religion, but I used to be a Muslim and still had the same opinions about Zakir Naik.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

i dont want to waste my time with you. Following is my answer for you.

لَكُمۡ دِينُكُمۡ وَلِىَ دِينِ

"To you be your religion, and to me my religion (Islâmic Monotheism)."

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

I’m not interested in seeing any mockery video. :smack: He is definitely doing some great work while I sit here analyzing.

So then my question is, what are his sources for understanding the Qur’an and interpreting it. What school of thought does he follow?

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

Wow.. Irrelevant to bring this piece of verse in this thread! I'm not telling you to leave your religion or anything so not sure why you are telling me this.

All I did was post my reasons for not liking Dr. Zakir Naik, which many moderate Muslims I know agree with. This guy is comparing death penalty in Islam for apostacy to treason, and he has lots of followers so of course I and many moderate Muslims will not like him for preaching this.

Re: Dr. Zakir Naik

@ Unos: I have already given you my answer. You dont believe on any religion. It is waste of time for us to talk with you.

@ Niksik: he doesnt follow particular school of thought and that is different debate. You cannot consider him aalim, but a debater and specialized in comparison of religion.
