Isn’t the risk of being perceived as seeking limelight/celebrity worth if it means educating the general masses??? Is it not the character/responsiblities of the scholar to reach out to people and spread the true knowledge that they have??

When we have fulfilled our duties then we should ask others about theirs … This is all that I am saying. Also, it is important to note that many of the awliyya are hidden from the “limelight” by the graces of Allah (SWT) to protect them from harm … Every pearl is hidden in a clam, which is hidden in ocean in the lowest part under the surface … They are not easy to find and in this parable is a real answer to your question … If we don’t step up to the mark then the agents of Allah (SWT) will be lifted away from us.
