If you plan on returning to practice, I can understand. If not, then I question your sincerity of pursuing the field in the first place, or I assume that you just had bad experiences with it and don’t want to do it anymore…or you have a crapload of malpractice lawsuits and they took your license away.
Yeah, I don’t buy the whole, well now my entire responsibility is my family. You balanced family and work when you were getting trained and practicing, and babies don’t stay babies forever - there is a short period of time where they need constant care and many places offer terrific maternity leave or part-time plans for new moms.
