Dr. Shaista

Tammy, read above. This is exactly what I’m talking about. Is it ok that your tax money goes to subsidize seats for women who are not sincere about the field in the first place?

Someone asked what can be done to fix it…not sending people into med school so early, doing better interview screenings, requiring some demonstration of work to show how sincere you are about the career, improving the post-med school financial roadblocks, and making students pay penalties for quitting med school or not practicing for a given number of years. People should not be allowed to friggin’ leave the country until they pay their penalty. That will make in-laws think twice before taking people out of the field.

Or only subsidize those seats in which you sign a contract saying you’ll serve on Pakistani soil for X number of years before making any decision to abandon the field. That way, tax money and international loan money doesn’t get funneled into wasted seats.
