I have a difference of opinion with a lot of other posters on this issue, so won’t belabour my point, except to say:

Maybe, just maybe his actions were an act of loyalty of protection for his compatriots. In aiding the “enemy” by outing a man accused of masterminding attrocities, his actions may have protected his fellow Pakistanis. He did what his government failed to do - which was to help find and apprehend a suspected war criminal.

Oh, and one more point. Machiavelli was one of my favourite political strategists and theorists because of his passion for his nation-state. Nothing was more important than to protect it and it’s survival. To accomplish that, he believed that sometimes the ends justify the means.

I think that the apprehension of OBL was in the best interest of Pakistan and Afghanistan and to that purpose, while Dr. Afridi is accused of being a traitor - really he may be the hero here.

While I agree that apprehension of OBL was in the best interest of Pakistan the role played by Afridi probably was not. It is a case of what we strongly beleive in. Does the end justify the means in this case. We seem to disagree. Lets leave it at that.
