Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 76 years.

yamahaguy: I wouldn't have a problem with it. If bias is feared, it must be dealt with. People can start getting excited about racism if they want to but as far as I'm concerned, every single person deserves a fair trial. The jury should be made up of a mix of religions, races, and occupations. Therefore, what wouldn't be fair is if only muslims or only black people or only pakistani people were allowed in a jury. But if the suspect expresses his/her concern over the jury, it is a fair request, and the jury panel should be reviewed.. perhaps its even the suspect's right (lawyers can help me out here).

I'm not a lawyer but being in forensics I know a thing or two about jury, suffice to say.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

well what was she doing in afghanistan?

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

making biryani with talibanic brothers..

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

what if she was set up to cook the biryani :chai:

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

what makes her important enough to be set up?

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

a muslim. a pakistani. a vulnerable lil lady.

I'm not saying she definitely did get set up, just examining both sides of the coin. This theory that she was set up has been mentioned various times, so just sayin'.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

Very easily amused you are.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

sorry, but that makes no sense to me. why was she in afghanistan? who has the capability to set her up for being a muslim pakistani woman living in karachi?

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

I'm not sure how some people are finding it hilarious and humorous.. but really dont see any fun here. Whether guilty or no, its quite painful and tragic, rather inhumane. Strange how can you find pleasure in there!!

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

I guess we will never know the full story but one cannot ignore other possibilites... she has been a "victim of the American darkside" and the "evidence has been planted and tampered with", these were the exact words of her lawyer.

Also, as TLK bhai mentioned earlier, isn't it a bit too much to say she shot at them during interrogation with a random rifle lying around?

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

:k:

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 76 years.

Justice is not served, she was in captivity since 2003 but she only got accused of an unbelievable crime of “assaulting militarmen during interrogation picking up un-attended rifle”. I mean how ridiculous can it get?

Did that superpower find a WMD in Iraq? Any infrastructure to support manufacturing one? I know its not related but whole thing was fabricated, that ‘superpower’ wanted to send a message across the world on all fronts ‘panga te nayee changa’ and that it would punish anyone who they “think” is involved in an activity which they believe is wrong.

Exactly.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

She was already in Afghanistan in US captivity, they couldn't find any damning evidence against her so they came up with the story of her assaulting military-men during interrogation.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

The answer is in your question. Just the fact that a normal lady from Pakistan can be such a huge danger to the world peace is enough reason for the allied forcs to sit in that region and do what they want to do for years and years to come.

remember that white american who was caught at Pak afghan border with armed weapon in his possession and he was on Osama hunt? The dude was let go. Point is, being in Afghanistan is not a crime unless you have brown skin.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

The only reason I'm giving her the benefit of doubt is because nobody is sure of the entire story. When a verdict is announced, usually there's no more questions left unanswered. Everyone knows what the heck happened. But in this case, there's way too many questions left unanswered and that is why I am not ready to accept any theories. She may have done it, but there's very strong indications that she is only a victim.

Another reason why I'm having a hard time digesting this story is because she's a mother and an MIT graduate... her kids mean everything to a mother... if it was some lallu panju aurat from the streets of Pakistan I might have believed everything that the americans were saying about her but she is smart enough to know better.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

Just imagine the reaction of the Western media and humanitarian orgs if it were Iran instead of US.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

Hareem, in all the years I’ve known you, this is by far the most awesome comment you have made. :salute: So true indeed.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

Quoted for truth.

Re: Dr Aafia Siddiqui sentenced 86 years.

and even this is not a very profound statement, so imagine the quality of the rest of her posts if this the most awesome one.
