so we will be taking our baby to Pakistan and I am kind of onfused for the requirements for him.. I was told to apply for NICOP so he wont need visa to enter Pakistan (I have NICOP since 2003 and it clearly states “no visa required” on the back of the card) however when I was going to fill out the form it looked like he will need POC (Pakistan Origin Card) since it does say visa free entry to Pakistan but it doesnt say the same under NICOP
s descroption.. in fact it makes it look like you need NICOP no matter what but for visa free entry you need POC!
can someone please confirm what new NICOPs look like and if it still clearly states a visa free entry to Pakistan and how long does it usually take for the card to come in mail? on the website it states 3 months but I know people got it sooner than that.. personal experienices?
and mods please dont move it.. see it’s baby related, parents will know the answer and usually not all parents visit Travel forum!! thanks
ps: here is the link for POC and NICOP … it emphasizes no visa needed for POC but doesnt say the same for NICOP!

**according to international practice of mothers traveling with minors, the child's name needs to be endorsed on mother's passport for travel purposes.
the child doesn't need a passport or a visa. you can have your child's name endorsed on your passport and that's it! :)
All NICOPs say 'visa free entry' into Pakistan.
I got a NICOP for my daughter last year. She got a new passport as well. They no longer let the child travel on the mother's passport.F
rom what I understand they do not need any other documents or the Pakistan origin card thing.
We got it back in the mail in less than 3 months for sure.I think it was a few weeks.
If you feel you might not get the NICOP back in time for your travel, you can always get an urgent visa on the passport. That you can get back in a week, but it costs more. And it is actually useless if you have the NICOP.
hey can someone tell me how long does it take to apply for a NICOP of a newborn and when it is issued in the UK? would the baby need a new Pakistani passport too?
Enigmatic.. dont know about that for UK but with NICOP you dont need a Pakistani passport to travel to Pakistan.. in fact you dont even need visa for Pakistan! just get the British passport and NICOP!

The child should have there own passport well in europe now, the child isn't meant to be on the adults passport being it the mother

children are required to have their own passports and visas.
good thread! I was looking into this as well.
have another question for folks ... for the NICOP application ... does the S1 form need to be filled and processed first? also the S1 form needs to be signed by "(Pakistan Representative in the country outside Pakistan)" .... any ideas who qualifies as that representative????
planning a trip to Pakistan from US with my 2 year old toddler. both parents have US passports and NICOP. toddler has US passport. will she need a NICOP for entry?
she will either need the visa on her US passport or NICOP.. we applied for our son’s nicop but also got the visa (within a day) his NICOP arrived in mail after six months!
We are just getting a pakistani visa onmy son’s US passport. I will be using NICOP and my US passport for travel. To get NICOP for my son, we first had to change my marital status on my NICOP.
nabz.. I got my NICOP within two months but that was about 10 years ago.. I dont know why it took long for my son’s NICOP!
and yes we paid for both!
you could do what we did.. apply for NICOP but also get the visa on her passport (NY embassy- submitted passport in the morning and picked it up late afternoon with the visa), and since NICOPs are good for 10-12 years.. it will be good to have whenever it arrives but dont wait for NICOP to travel!
Like others said if you are traveling soon, then get the visa on the child’s US passport plus apply for his NICOP.If the NICOP comes before the travel date, well and good otherwise he will have the visa.He will need one of the things to enter into Pakistan.
We did it three years ago for our daughter (a newborn at that time). But we were lucky that we got the NICOP in a month.
I think NICOP processing takes quite long in Pakistan so I would say apply for your son in the US.
Also they do require you to change your marital status on the NICOP.I had it done 7-8 years ago when I needed some visa.I didn’t have the kid then.
NICOP processing does take time so if you have plans to travel soon, apply for a multiple entry visit visa for your child. Visa is valid for 5 years so I dont see any point in applying for a NICOP after you get a visa. I mailed everything to the consulate and it came back in a week.
My son has a visa valid for 5 years and I plan to apply for his NICOP once the visa is about to expire.
