Don't you feel uncomfortable as heck or out of place?

or is it just me? At Eid shindigs that is. All the woman are dressed up in all these lehngas and shalwar kameez and dripping in jewellery and perfume. I spent my time looking at the woman when they were reading surah fatiha at some function thing and at the guys looking at them. They’d walk by and woah, there goes my attention. gorgeous but fake. So of course at all Eid things I wore my most well worn cotton shalwar kameez and a lot of black eyemakeup. that saying if you can’t beat em, join em is total crap. and of course, this eid I’ll make sure I match my shalwar and kameez

You got an nice shoes/sandals/slippers in mind to go with that?

well from what i’ve heard and understood all my life…during EId your supposed to dress in your best clothing. now whether that best dress is a simple , clean salwar kameez, or shaadi-esque stuff, is upto that individual. Eid is the only day we’re allowed to do that are we not? plz correct me if i’m wrong…

and yeah i feel so outof place at desi functions as well..not coz of how i dress, coz i LOVE to dress up  but just coz…i dunno..i’m not the typical party-hopping desi socialite type. weddings are hte worst, but maybe coz i have some really bad self-esteem issues (its nonexistent).. .. but yeah point is i feel uncomfortalbe at EId shindigs, wedding shindigs, shin shindigs

ps… Sarah, will u post ur shaadi pix or pm any if requested?

I dont like to over-dress, but I love to dress up in my best for Eid.I always make sure I get some new outfits in advance, jewlery and shoes to match. My jewlery is usually very simple, but the Eid spirit is just so much fun.

I love seeing everybody dressed up and enjoying themselves.Usually I dont like it when people are so dressed up- but I love it on Eid.Its just the whole feeling.Seeing people in their best, laughing and getting along.

And its one of the few occasions where I wear a lot of make up and dark/bright lipsticks.

Re: Don’t you feel uncomfortable as heck or out of place?

soo just because they wear makeup and look gorgeous, they’re fake? whoa umm okay

I'm not one for crowds so I almost always feel uncomfy in a crowd, whether its at an Eid Mela or a small party. Therefore, the clothes people are wearing are the last thing on my mind. I tend not to be dressy, but I dont concern myself with what others are wearing so it doesnt bother me in that way.

makeup is fake, isnt it?

hah, so what does 'fake' make up have to do with personality? so if i have highlights or wear colored contacts, i have a fake personality? how retarded is that

^ are u really the Aishaaaaaaaaaa ive had a crush on.. or are u the fake one?

back on track… hmm Im not big on make up either or wearing flashy clothes but i dont mind getting dressed up for Eid.. you dont have to have pink cheeks and 2meter long eyelashes to look gorgeous.. but a bit of makeup and a classy outfit sure looks good :k:

everyone is entitled to dress the way they want.. afterall its everyones Eid, not just urs and mine  and so peopel should be allowed to dress however they want.. if that makes them happy.. then good on them

I like dressing up on Eid. It seems to be the only time I ever dress up in somewhat fancy outfits. During the rest of the year, I don't. I also like seeing everybody else dressed up.

To each their own ... as long as we all get eidee, that's all that really matters. :p

huh?

^ dont mind me… ive had a busy morning.. ive got a few screws loose up there :bummer:

Mehnaz me too! i liek seeing others dressed up and how they parade around infront of the boys :rotfl: its the funniest sight.

Somehow, i never feel uncomfortable because no matter how anyone dresses up in the end they are just humans like myself. I tell myself that everyone is an individual with unique likings so if i like simple clothing they might like something else.

i never said anything about personality but i dont think any of us are born wearing lipstick or foundation or eye shadow…neither do i think these chemicals are part of us

Sarah :- I know exactly how you feel. Its like its more of a fashion show than a spiritual gathering and celebration.

Simplicity is beauty...

Eid is spiritual gathering? Wasn't it meant to be social?

I love to see ppl dressed up, mehndi, chooRiyaaN, smiles, laughs, lots of food, etc etc. Seeing someone sitting in a corner all quite is so depressing on Eid, and seeing someone judging others on Eid instead of enjoying is frustrating. Enjoy your Eid while you can, you never know how your next will be.

I agree with Qrius and sabah :k:

Sarah dear,

If you feel uncomfortable around such kind of people then it’s YOU who has a problem not them. Respect each individual for what they are as long as they don’t hurt you. ‘Nothing wrong with it.’

Yes sabah, in its true authenticity Eid ul Fitr is a spiritual gathering marking the end of a holy month. I did not say one doesnt need to dress up and go visit others. All I am saying is that make it less of a fashion show and more of a respected gathreing. One has to observe the modesty that Islam promotes. For eid, it is only said to wear new clothes. It doesnt say anything about parading around in loud colors and bright jewlery, shoes and showing off to others.

A person needs to maintain modesty at all times, whether Eid or no Eid.
