Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

This is supported by Fakh-e-alam in collaboration with PIA, I am posting a video link where you’ll see him explaining what you can do to make a simple life box that only costs around 12 dollars.

http://www.piac.com.pk/Flood_Relief/Fakhr-e-Alam.htm

but for those who cant watch the posted link, i am going to list down item that are currently needed to provide immediate relief to flood victims.

  1. Juice 250 ml(12 packs), dont forget to put straws
  2. Water bottles(1.5 litre x 2)
  3. Potato chips(6 packs)
  4. sweet and salty Biscuits(2 boxes of sweet B and 1 box of salty B)
  5. Milk carton(1 litre)
  6. disposable glasses(5-8)
  7. Dates
  8. Chocolates
  9. Soap(1)
  10. ORS (2packs)
  11. Sanitary Napkins for females
  12. Feeder for kids(1)

A few things that should be kept in mind while buying things:

  • products should be halal
  • size of the box should be 15/15
  • do check out the expiry date for eatable products

You wont have to bear transportation charges, PIA is providing its cargo services to people living abroad without any cost. All you have to do is prepare these life boxes and deliver them to PIA office, rest will be taken care by them.

Do come forward to help people in need.

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

It has been advised to omit the Water bottles and any medications in these life boxes as it will lead to difficulties in disposing so many million of bottles of plastic and lead to pollution . Also initially it was suggested to add medicines and insect repellents to the Box but that is also avoided as many of these people are illiterate and will not be able to use them properly.

In fact its been advised that these life boxes should be sent from abroad as making them here has led to inflation of common utilities for the people here and the rest of the poor families who are living here but not affected by the floods will be affected by inflation of common goods........What a sad state of Governance we live in . !!!!!

For people in Pakistan its advised to donate clothes , shoes , tents , water purification systems and medicines etc.

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

sheen i just saw fakhr-e-alam on hum tv, he didnt omit water bottles....and ya i forgot to mention insect repellents, it has been excluded. Thanks for mentioning

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

One of Friend queried about it and has the detail about the food Donation process from Germany (Deutschland).

----------
Assalam o Alaekum..

Dear Brothers/Sis

PIA has taken this initiative of sending goods to PAKISTAN.

They are asking for nothing , no money but food..

Pakistan now has a lot of money but no commodities/eating stuff, to buy. So idea is that instead of depleting Pakistan of the eating goods the overseas PAKIS are being requested to send the box full of dried eating stuff..

For further reference of what to put and what to avoid see this website.

http://www.piac.com.pk/Flood_Relief/contents.htm

I called the relevant person in Frankfurt today and he told me the process is GANZ EINFACH !!! (There is no embassy involve as some RUMORS pointed out)

STEPS:

  1. Buy the cartons.
  2. Buy the stuff as given on the website above (you can exceed the item limit to fit the box but should not make it heavy enough to handle easily.)
  3. Volume limit must be observed weight is not the issue. (Again make it not too heavy to handle easily)
  4. List down the items you have inside as you will need to declare them before PIA and they have to declare it before customs.
  5. Once you are ready call this person Ashfaq Maher : +49-170-2651219 and ask him when you can reach him with boxes.
  6. They will give you time and you will need to take the stuff directly to FRANFURT INTL. AIRPORT at given time where PIA will receive it. (NO HASSLE , NO EMBASSY, NO PAPER WORK and BLA BLA…)

GOOD NEWS IS THAT WHEN I CALLED THIS GUY HE WAS REQUESTING ME TO BRING NOT ANYTHING UNTIL NEXT 2 WEEKS.. He said he has his cargo Place full of boxes and they weigh more than 40 Tonnes (40,000 KGs) and he will need 4 trips to deliver it. THEY ARE SHORT OF PLACE AND CAN’T STORE MORE [Dated: Monday, August 23, 2010]

He said the amount I am getting is more than I can manage which shows that the people all around Germany are already hunting ALDI, PENNY markets. Now its Duisburg turn.

INSHA ALLAH We Will start doing this Exactly this WEEK and would make a plan and then start hunting.

Need prayers.

Kindest Regards,
Muhammad Faraz Afzal.

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

What a great idea! Especially with so much doubt surrounding the disbursement of donated funds.

Since I sit on the philanthropy committee for the company that I work for, I will be bringing this to their attention.

Can someone please post the contact name and phone of the person taking care of this in the Toronto PIA office?

In GTA, there are several Facebook events going on for lifebox. You can either volunteer to help pack the boxes or drop off supplies/goods.
I got an email from one of the groups and they have listed approved channels that are in direct contact with PIA:

Please donate food boxes for (PIA) Flood relief Initiative (boxes will be delivered free by PIA to affected areas in coordination with Pakistan Army & NGOS)

You can donate your stuff to several approved organizations within Greater Toronto area. Some of the names are as follows.

North American Muslim Foundation in Scarborough 416-299-1969

Muslim Welfare Centre Of Toronto in Scarborough 416-754-8116

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

This sounds like a great idea…
I see there is only one help center in the USA and that is in New York…
Has anyone from the USA made and sent these boxes to PIA…??
If so,I am assuming you had to mail them out to a NY address…??
I called the number for that NY location but no one answers…infact it goes to the fax machine…

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

I also need a US and UK contact.

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

http://www.piac.com.pk/Flood_Relief/ERP.htm

I came across the contact numbers on this page…I see a few locations in UK and one each in US and Canada…

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

But you are saying that the US number goes to a fax machine?

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

yup...I tried it twice...
that is why I was asking if anyone from the US has any additional info...

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

Someone posted this link on FB ...I asked if anyone was doing anything in our local community...I got a call from a friend who knows someone whose husband will be driving these boxes to the NY location...(we are about a few hours drive away from NY)...
So we have been told to make 2 boxes/person whoever is interested...
I think its a great idea...Inshallah will be preparing them soon....

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

wow...good to see so many pakistanis living abroad considering this idea...

God bless all of you... and all the very best:)

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

Thanks for the contact info chips. I think the boxes are a great idea.
Ive tried calling the number for my area, but couldnt get through ..will try again iA.

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

Just a piece of info...Someone who made this box was telling me tonight that it costs about $40-$45/box...
The title says its $11-12....
I just though I would share, although I haven't made one myself yet so can't say for sure....Will update once I get everything together,Inshallah.

:)

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

chips, the estimated amount mentioned in the title was actually given by fakhr-e-alim in one of his recent interviews...so according to him life box costs around $11-12

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

There is one in chicago as well. They do a pick up every wednesday and saturday of the week.

Where in US are you located?

re: Donate a LIFEBOX For your Pakistani Brothers in Need.

I think this is a fantastic idea but I have one concern. I think the potato chips are a horrible idea and should be replaced with something healthier. They are devoid of nutrients and the bags might even pop before arrival in PK.

Also for the juice boxes, please spread the word that they should be 100% juice. These poor starving people are going to be needing all the nutrients they can get to help strengthen their bodies against disease.

The reason I am so sensitive to this is because I have BSc in Nutrition!

Does anyone know who decided on the contents of the Life Boxes? Perhaps there was a reason for those specific contents but if not, let's try to come up with the most nutritional bang for the buck, so to speak. Thoughts?

What about sending daal, channa, chowl, some masala? Do the flood affected people have access to fire/stove? Perhaps we should be putting a cooking pot, and a bunch of daal in the box as well. Daal is compact yet hugely nutritious (fibre, nutrients and protein).

I realise these people are probably desperate for anything source of sustenance at this point but I really feel in my heart that we should make it as good as we can!
