Anyone do their own makeup for the mayoun/mehndi/wedding? How’d that work out for pictures? Regrets?
I’m debating doing my own vs hiring my wedding MUA to do mehndi too…I want no-makeup makeup but definitely have blemishes/acne prone skin that I don’t want showing up in pictures.
Yes my Sister done her hair style and set her matha patti waghaira on her mehandi and I did her makeup, she could have done it form salon even her salon offered her a free mayoo/mehandi makeup but she wanted to do her own and wanted us sisters to fix makeup.pics are amazing ALlhumdulilah and she is glad she did that at home with her sisters.
I think if u do it urself it will actually look like the “no-makeup makeup” - MUA do makeup that will look flawless on camera, and most of the time that requires heavy makeup and it shows in untouched, candid photos and real life. Also… the whole theme of the mehndi where the girl looks natural and simple, bare-faced etc… it will look better if u do ur own makeup cos u know where to stop, IMO.
I did my own engagement makeup and it turned out well, but I can see the blemish I had (I don’t have professional pics because it was a very small event) and it BUGS me so much. Everyone else liked it though. I basically JUST want my skin to look really nice and even but that’s it. I don’t want sweeping hot pink blush or anything like that.
I guess my question is, did their pics come out fine? Ive heard girls look pale and sick on camera because of the mehndi colors being so vibrant. I’m wearing yellow so that’s my concern. I’m pretty fair skinned–it’s JUST the acne marks that I care about. I’m also gonna have to do some minimal makeup for the mayon because of my skin but I didn’t know if that would be too much of the same – if i’d have the same look both days.
A big pro is that I’d be saving 400 dollars (that’s what my MUA would charge for mehndi). I’m doing a braid with flowers so nothing too fancy so she wouldn’t have much to do with hair.
I also found a makeup artist for $30 dollars …I dont know if I trust her though…I’m doing a trial soon.
All their pics were gorgeous... the one thing that was weird was in the non-professional pics, my cousin who had a MUA do her makeup, had the cakey/white cast look.
If ur skin is not too problematic, i'm sure u can do the makeup on ur own and cover up any problem areas.
Depends on your makeup skills, really. And the quality of makeup you have. You could go to a makeup outlet to get your makeup done and get some new makeup in the process.
The white cast is from SPF in makeup. Just make sure your foundation doesn't have SPF.
And I photographed a nikkah where the bride had done her own makeup. She looked great but she was a makeup lover with great skin and expensive makeup.

I am 100% agreed, i did my mehndi makeup by myself but i am a makeup lover, usually i check it out on youtube and i used MAC makeup so it turned out really beautiful in pictures as well, even my husband liked me more on mehndi than spending $350 on wedding day.

Yes, I have a pretty extensive makeup collection. The only thing I'm not 100% comfortable with is contouring but I don't want to do that for the mehndi anyways. I've never gotten my makeup professionally done, as I do it myself for every event (including engagement).
Yeah, I think it depends on your own makeup experience as well as the makeup artist you choose. If you get professional makeup done, there are many that are great at doing the no makeup look without making you look cakey.
If you do it yourself, you should practice on yourself and the products you want to use. I'm sure you can get rid of the acne/blemishes that you're feeling conscious of with the right primer, foundation and concealer.
I did my own makeup for the mayoun and mehendi. I wore yellow on the mayoun and green on the mehendi and I don't think I look washed out in either... professional camera or family/friends. Practice and you'll be fine! :)

How did you do your hair? I was thinking of doing that deep side part with a fishtail braid that i'm going to wrap flowers around so I may need a professional for that. But I don't tihnk you can see the hairstyle with the dupatta + flowers anyway? ugh
That sounds good!! Fish tail will still show with the dupatta.. if you scatter the flowers or have them entwined into your braid, you'll be able to see all of it. My sister had a messy fishtail braid + dupatta. can you post a picture of the style you're thinking?
I wear a Hijab soo for the mehendi I got a bun done from the lady who did my family's hair and makeup. Since I was doing my own dupatta setting, I wanted a bun that would hold up my dupatta (it was heavy) for the whole night.
For the mayoun, it was all girls so i had my hair in loose curls
Did my own makeup & hair (minimal / simple) for mayoun and mehndi... got it done professionally for the wedding. All pictures turned out good. I would say for a bigger event like wedding, maybe get it professionally done because the professional artists know how to make it last longer & set the veil etc, and you don't really need to touch-up after they're done.
I did my own makeup for mehndi day...a very natural look but I did a red lip.
No white cast showed up in pictures but then again...as someone already stated...the white cast is because of the SPF. Just make sure your foundation is your exact match, no SPF and applied very well. A good primer is also important.
Why don't you do a few trial runs at home with the makeup you have? Get a camera and snap a few shots with different products to see what looks best?
I think it'll look great! As mentioned above, try out your products before hand until you are comfortable. If not, then go with a professional makeup artist :)
why not go to the mall and try MAC or another makeup counter to help with the foundation/flawless skin and do the rest yourself at home?
I don't want to be stressed out trying to find someone decent at MAC the day of the event. It'd be easier to have someone come to my place; I may just go with a gora makeup artist since they tend to keep things more natural
who said to go on day of event? go for trials ahead of time....you just have to buy $50 of product which i'm sure you will need anyways and see which ones you like (MAC, bobby brown, etc). you may be able to replicate the look yourself if you find the ideal product if skin coverage is your only concern. plus, since you're not going for full face makeup it shouldn't take too much time for the makeup artist to do. you can also come home and take pictures with your outfit on and see how it turns out.

If I do that, can I request that specific makeup artist on the day of the event? Do you know if theyre willing to come to the hotel or whatever for makeup?
