it is, and its not in a religious context. I dont know if it is a karachi thing, but its not new, even when i had moved to karachi in the 80s i found it strange.
But in what context , people use that same sister word for nurses !

^^ Actually that is exactly what Urdu Dictionary Board is suppose to do. Maybe it wil never become the norm, but we should find the word, like keyboard is '' Kuleedi takhta",although we always say keyboard
I agree, we should translate all the terms in Urdu. I am not aware if Lugat'ul Urdu Board is actually putting some effort in this direction. But honestly, will someone really be using it? Given the flood of English medium schools in Pak?
I know that the Germans are doing it. The responsible authorities often start competitions to find the proper German words for the foreign terms.
But still the street German has become something like "Denglish (a mixture of Deutsch and English)", thanks to MTV culture.
So, what is the use of these terms when they are not actually being put into practice?

I know what you mean danday walay , my first encounter with urdu was in 8th grade but I was keen to learn it and we speak it at home so it wasn’t a much of trouble .
If we want our kids to go back and speak proper urdu , we should be doing it from grass route level . I mean from school .
Otherwise , God forbid , urdu gona be some dead language like IRISH .

let me give u an example, if some shopkeeper had something that my sister had ordered and sees me, he will say :"ji aap ki sister nay yeh order kiya tha" or some friend asking me like "aap ki sister medical college mein hain na" or "meri sister dubai say aa rahee hain"
