Dog as pet

I understand that watch dog is allowed .. but what is the exact ruling ..

  1. if you touch the dog (skin) would you become Najs?

  2. how about the saliva of dog, Is there a limit that would make your clotes najs, like if Dog comes and lick u, and the size of drool/saliva spot is less than a penny, do you still need to change your clothes.

  3. I also understand that dog needs to remain outside the house.

but can some one provide me with rulings or links where I can read in details.

Point is, I want a watch dog for my daugters (5 and 2 yrs old), cause I am very paranoid about there safety, specialy when they are playing outside on the street, i want the dog to guard them

Re: Dog as pet

Re: Dog as pet

Allah Taa'la, hifazat ke waseelay paida kertay hain ..

phir to, parents should leave their kids alone at very young age. Allah wil anyway take care of them .. right?

Re: Dog as pet

Anyone remember that sad incident in which the dog killed his master's 2 year old kid?

Re: Dog as pet

TLK
Parents should be watching their kids not the animals.

IMO parents should protect and guard their children (and leave the rest to Allah SWT) not a dog. No matter how skilled or trained… in the end a dog is nothing more then just an animal. Besides as a Muslim it is too much work to keep a dog (ie having to keep away from it’s saliva, not letting it into the home etc). Nowadays, they have security alarms and all kinds of technology to guard and protect your family and home…there really isnt much much need for a watch dog.

To answer your query…

-from my understanding it is not the dog that is impure but the saliva from a dog is what is considered to be filthy.

I am not sure about the rulings of keeping the dog outside of the house and therefore can not answer.

Re: Dog as pet

I guess you guys have some sort of religious ban on dogs, though in this day and age it makes no sense. Apart from being loving pets and loyal friends, dogs also perform a varity of services. Even the most islamically bent of you would have heard of how St.Bernards, police dogs and seeing-eye dogs serve humanity. In addition they also have protected and saved the lives of thousands of children! Below is an example (thanks to google)

I really pity those kids who never get to enjoy the friendship of a pet dog jus because of some arcane religious past.

Fire Breaks Out, Little Dog Saves Lives

February 14, 2001
Northeast Bexar County, Texas, USA

Early Tuesday morning, an electrical fire broke out at the Boysville home for abused and neglected children. The entire structure was reduced to charred rubble, but thanks to a heroic Chihuahua, the inhabitants were saved, and the fire was contained before it could spread to nearby homes.

Our hero is a 7 lb. Chihuahua named Rosco, who sensed the fire while his owners were asleep, around 2:00 am. He began barking incessantly in an unusual and urgent manner, waking Lillian Heise, the owner of the building.

Said Ms. Heise, “I woke up by him really barking extra loud. This was a different sound than normal; I think he knew there was something different going on back there. I went to the window and saw flashes of light. I knew then that I really must have a problem.”

She then called 911, and firefighters soon arrived on the scene. They found the building engulfed in flames, the fire rapidly spreading, but they were nonetheless able to put it out, thanks to the early warning. Fire officials noted that the timing of the fire’s discovery led them to extinguish it before it spread to nearby homes.

Rosco has been credited with saving lives. “I’m going to carry him around in a silver platter,” added Ms. Heise. “He’s a real sweetie.”

Re: Dog as pet

get smart, the dogs in those incidents that you have presented can be considered as "watch dogs" which islam allows.

TLK bhai, you will never be satisfied, you will always be paranoid about the security of your daughters. Do what YOU can and rest leave it to Allah.

what the chihuaha in the story is a watch dog? come on!

But fine, use whatever name as escape clause but for gossake lift the ban on dogs - your kids and yourselves need them and heaven knows the poor dogs need you!

lol why in the world would my kids need a dog? and why would a dog need me?

Allah is the creator and Allah alone is the sustainer.

whats shame in it…

You got it completely wrong!

He saved the kid, the dog died. It's an story about an Irish King who left his 2 year son at home and when he came back he found blood and thought that his dog had killed his son. When he saw the dog, he saw blood over him and killed him. Then he saw his son, safe and secure, smiling.

He started crying and said, what have I done to the savior of my Son? As far as I remember it was an animal which wanted to "eat" the baby...

Rottweiler ek Dog hain yaan Beast? For me it's not a dog, it's a KILLER...just look at this body, the teeth, the decided gaze. That is an monster, not a dog...

you are kidding right? that's the funniest things I've heard all day...I needed that...thanks :D

Theres been countless incidents where the dogs saved kids, and grown ups too... You cannot question a dogs loyalty... As for some incidents where terrible stuff has happened, remember human beings have killed 2 year olds too, probably alot more times than dogs.

I was once pulling in infront of my house, and these three guys all of a sudden came upto me and tried to get my watch and phone (something thats becoming more and more common these days), and the next thing I know two of them are on the run, and one of them down with his shalwar in my dogs jaw! Before that incident, my whole family was opposed to keeping a dog! It all changed of course.

TLK, go for it, just make sure you take the necessary precautions, make sure the dog is dewormed and clean. Beware though, keeping a dog can be a very tedious job at times, financially as well, and theres always an emotional attachment to the whole thing. When we had to put our dog to sleep after 12 years because he was in pain, it was very hard for us, and this is something your kids will have to put up with later too.
