Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

ORLY?

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

I don’t know, I’m not really sure…

Isn’t online real life? Is the internet a matrix where time doesn’t exist?

Online you can be anyone you want. You have no face but you have multiple personas. Your deepest thoughts, feelings & expressions are free for all to read and debate. I think the saddest part of all of it is the reality that what people do online is who they really are and in “the real world” they hide in their shell to afraid to express their inner thoughts.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

This guy is good. I was actually going to ask what IRL meant.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

You know, I’ve always thought this as well. I’ve heard people comment that social media “makes” people catty and malicious because it gives them anonymity and absolves them of responsibility but I don’t believe that is accurate. I think that the anonymity simply allows people to be who they really are. I find it extremely difficult to believe that people who make vicious, catty comments online are any different in real life. The only difference is that they hide their cattiness in real life.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

Same. Except no inappropriate one liners “IRL”

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

I agree it gives an outlet to express things that otherwise you can’t really do because it would come across as embarrassing or one may be mocked. Even online you can be mocked but the impact is far less than in real life.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

^ Is your writing speed in real life as fast as it is online?

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

as in with handwriting or typed words. I don’t think i’m that fast a typer but i guess i can be. Plus need to multitask ..only 24 hrs in the day..so much to write and do. No time for sleep.. It’s all about the thoughts running through my mind as I type. It’s probably better to be succinct but i can’t stop myself once the thoughts in my mind control my fingers as i start typng away. It’s like my fingers are not in my control. Similar to how Pochahontas felt when she was flying through the air when singing colors of the wind. She was a red Indian and I am a brown Indian. So we got that connection.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

What book ?

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

A book on Pakistani aesthetics and why people world over find it attractive. Most of all why people of subcontinent, especially Indians, are fascinated by pakistanis. El topo and Partyslims have been my main supporters for this project. Book will look into commonality and differences in appearance in subcontinent. I’ll be covering different ethnicities, doing research, interviews with Pakistani people and i’ll have a special chapter on the Kalash people with their blonde hair and light eyes. I’ll also be looking at Indian newspaper articles over the past few decades and into their praise of Pakistani celebrities and politician’s looks and see whether it is similar or has it changed. Then I will ask a sample of Pakistanis from all provinces whether they feel objectified, or feel it is a compliment. Just some deep, senti stuff like that.

The sequel will be** India and Pakistan: Forbidden fascination or Friendly Foes **This will be fiction/non fiction looking into common culture, history and past but also differences. In long term the Urdu/Hindi version will become a pakistani drama and bollywood movie.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

You, El Topo and Partyslims are invited to the book launch. It will happen in a couple of cities. This book will be the next big best seller after Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Twilight and 50 shades of Grey. I haven’t read the last 2 books but i hear they did well. You don’t want to miss ou on this launch. You will all get a copy of the book. It will be epic

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

One thing is grunteed. The pages/book price will probably top the charts. And there is no escaping this savera- one would settle for 3 consecutive posts as a more palatable alternative.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

To some extent, yes, people are able to be who they are online, but when you remove body language and tone from the message, as well as the feedback for your actions, it makes people worse than they are (or better if you’re shy or socially awkward). Looking at the negative behavour, if you insult someone and see their embarrassment or shock right away, most of us would apologize. Some of us might fake it, because that’s what society expects, but I think most people have at least some measure of empathy. Being online removes all that.

So yes, society forces people to behave to some extent, but is that any different from our parents teaching us how to treat others? Many of us, if we had been born into harsher environments, would have different personalities.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

Whoah. This is mighty ambitious and mind-boggling even if this is what you are just wishing to accomplish. Are you an author of books?

I do admire your graciousness vis-a-vis Pakistan and Pakistanis. :k:

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

Did he insult me there ? :fatee:

Cause l can’t tell. :bummer:

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

Both of you make interesting points.

So it is a way to come out of one’s shell and express what they truly feel without consequences and/or the insulting nature is already a part of one’s personality. Though, this aspect of one’s personality, is suppressed for the sake of society as Ghost also mentioned. I also think most of these people who are internet warriors and have mastered the art of online insults, would get their faces punched in on a daily basis if they talked like that IRL.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

Exactly. It’s easier hiding your real thoughts behind a mask.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

Interesting. So we wear a mask in real life. And the mask comes off online.

Re: Does your online personality reflect who you are IRL.

I will need lots of notice for the launch, shaavi, to brush my hair and stuff. :\
