I very rarely ever use “tum”…regardless if it’s family, friends or my kids…it’s always “aap”. My husband and I are 3 yrs apart in age, had a “love marriage” and I do not call him by his name. I don’t call him anything really, it’s always “Suniyay…or Sunai’n”. (and yes, I am born and raised in the US). I am the only one in my family like this lol…all my khalas, mamis, cousins etc call their husbands by name, but for some reason, I just never did/could. It’s not something he asked/expected/imposed either. When I refer to him in conversation with someone else, I use his name of course, but never, ever when I’m speaking to him directly or calling out to him

And he uses “aap” with me as well.

So rare these days!
