Many of the middle eastern countries don’t have blasphemy laws like Pakistan and are quiet tolerant compared to Pakistan. We need government spending on education for academia not blasphemy laws. Still not understanding how you are justifying it. If you believe that Muslims should be censored from any opinion of Islam that you find to be offensive out of fear that they might stop believing in it than you have a very weak faith in Islam.
Because your people want to kill anyone who utters mere words that they find to be offensive about their religion. Are you forgetting the case of the mentally challenged Christian girl? That’s blasphemy laws in action in Pakistan.
Al Mighty does not need blasphemy laws, but his self appointed spokespeople do (many on this thread included). Meanwhile, there are real victims of this cruel and barbaric law where mere accusation can get you killed, eg., this young & bright professor.
argh I just read the thread about the geo blasphemy case in the showbiz section. Pakistanis seem to be dunya kay anokhay musalman. Death threats over dancing to a qawali song really? More proof that the blasphemy laws need to be scraped. Pakistanis need to stop advocating for murder of people in the name of religion.
The vigilantism should end in Pakistan. There should be strict laws against that. Another measure is strct gun control, and anti gun laws. Where the heck these people are getting weapons from? Why dont we have laws against that?
as far as i know, AfGhan Refugees in the 80’s [after Russian invasion of AfGhanistan] brought this gun and drug culture. this is still on going plus the supply from the Balochistan.
If I were in Pakistan, I would be wajibulqatl. Law or no law!
my point is the law serves no purpose at all. If anything, it encourages and validates the anger and frustration people feel when their beliefs are questioned. You know what the saddest part is? People feel less insulted when you speak ill of God as if my God is different than yours even though there is only one God. At least that is what the belief is. They will be at your throat the moment you speak ill of the prophets and messengers. This makes me think monotheism has really accomplished nothing, those worshipping idols now worship human beings.
Just to make something crystal clear: God doesn’t NEED blasphemy laws, or anything else for that matter, from humans. Being Self-Sufficient, He needs nothing from us. Often people ask why does Allah need Muslims to pray to Him 5 times a day: when the simple answer is, He doesn’t. WE need HIM. So those who are attributing any form of weakness to God, I would vehemently contest to that and make clear that the blasphemy laws are a separate issue to the self-sufficient-ness of Allah.
As to the second issue: the blasphemy laws. I completely disagree with them. They are created by the Bourgeoisie to marginalise the minority, and discriminate anyone who seems to be going against the grain.
Germany also has punishment for holocaust denial so clearly they have limitation to freedom of speech.
And its strange that Denmark has blasphemy law yet Danish newspapers printed Mohammad cartoons few years back and so did many other european newspaper. blasphemy is punishable if it includes disturbance of peace, not simple criticism of Church. Also strange that supposedly that they give asylum to plenty of muslim apostates who got death penalty in their countries for criticizes islam. so either their blasphemy laws mean something else, or they dont follow.
I dont support blasphemy law in any country, unless it includes hate speech against a group of people following a particular religion. and its strange that despite of having blasphemy laws, plently of anti-christian books are published in those countries and no one has gotten death penalty.
Please don’t pull a Bush. I didn’t say I was in favor of the law. My entire point was that do you establish a consistent practice with your snide judgement when it applies to Western Liberal democracies when they have the same laws in play.
By and large you dislike the law, but you do make excuses for the European versions.
