A person is and i mean if he she is a Shia or a Sunni?
That questin ask a friend of my 2day and i said to him it
doesn’nt matter to me what the person is they are all humans.
I asked him why he ask this question and he said just. Hmm.. what do you pple think does it matter 2 u if some1 is shia or sunni?
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
All that should matter is that you are a good person, respect your vows, respect others, lead an honorable life. What else more could you ever ask for?? Name it shia, sunni, christian, whatever....these are the things that matter. It isnt YOUR job to judge how/when another person prays, where they pray, why they pray....that is between THEM and GOD/ALLAH...not you.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
My husband is Sunni and he says it doesn't matter to him, a Muslim is a Muslim. He says to judge people on the type of person they are and how they live.
BTW he would type for himself but waiting a couple of hours per sentence is too much for me. I always yank my computer back.*
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
Hi Mina and Mamaof3 i think the same way u both do. It doesnt matter 2 me if some1 is Shia Sunni or whatever. But i still wonder why he asked this question lol!
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
BTW Mina ur hubby is sunni what are you then? Just ask.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
No problem, Catholic.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
Well it depends on what is the status of your relationship with the other person. Certainly if he/she is ur group mate and class fellow doesnt really make any difference.
But if u r going in to relationship which will require more time together certainly one should be careful.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
Shoaibi he is just a friend.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
it doesn't matter if they r a freind or a colleague or a job applicant. it does matter if they were someone I was seeking religious guidance from or were going to marry
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
Serendipiti - Even if both are Muslim?
I am speaking out of ignorance here, so I apoligize in advance, I really don't want to offend. Is there a difference in the way Shiia and Sunni practice? I mean, enough of a difference that you wouldn't marry? I find that interesting.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
u lesser mortals isnt it great that the person u are dealing with is a human being and thankfully not an acid-spitting alien? shud it matter that he/she is a shia/sunni/black/white/tall/short etc.???
how narrow minded :(
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
I cannot respect a person as a Muslim who says they're either sunni or shia or whatever for that matter. If you're a true Muslim, you should not entertain such concepts.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
Hunk - Sects come with all religions. Also, no one is a 'true' anything, saying something along those lines is a bit judgemental. Who holds the standard on 'true'?
I guess the problem is considering yourself a Sunni/Shiia/whatever first and THEN a Muslim.
Personally, I think it should be the other way around.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
No one is likely to tell you first thing that they are shia or sunni. They first will tell you their name, and if you ask what their religion is, they will tell you they are muslim. The issue of shia/sunni will only come in if you question someone on it. I have never met anyone in my life, who straight off will introduce themselves as “Assalam O Alaikum, my name is Sheraz and I am a shia!” or “Hi, I am Umer and I am a sunni!”
ps. Well maybe if you are attending a meeting of Sectarian Annonymous (assuming there is such a thing as SA)
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
Abdullah bin Umar (ra) related that the Prophet (pbuh) said:
'On the day of judgement, every religion will be divided into 72 sects and they will all be put into Hellfire. Islam will be divided into 73 sects and 72 of them will be put into hellfire. The one sect that will remain safe would be the one that followed the Qur'an and Sunnah'
I dunno about you, but I'd rather not associate with any sect if that's where it could lead me :p
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
you may find this hadeeth among shias stating that It’s not sunnah but it’s Ahl-e-Bait.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
This particular hadith has been quoted and misquoted and explained and misexplained a gazillion times, just on this forum alone. People use it to justify everything under the sun, and claim “Get out of Jail” card, cz they believe their sect is the 73rd sect which got a short-cut to janat-ul-firdous. An alternative definition, is naturally that you need to belong to the right sect, else, you are on your own, based on this hadith. Go figure! ![]()
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
You guys missed the whole point of the hadeeth. Think for a moment. It's not justifying any sect. It simply stresses the point that we shoul NOT be part of any sects.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
"The one sect that will remain safe would be the one that followed the Qur'an and Sunnah"
Who missed the point? :)
Anyway, I don't care for sects much myself, except to understand where the other person is coming from. But to justify a sect-free ummah, using that hadith is a tall order.
Re: Does it matter 2 u what
Saying that I do not care much about the sects in Islam is a shallow statement.
This will never bring peace to Muslims, and they will always be fighting. If you are a Shia, it is essential for you to believe that Sunni is a liar, and vice versa. How can there be peace? What ever respect is there will just be on the surface, while inside each party believes that other is a liar, or at least misguided. Resolution of this dispute is only possible through Devine intervention and guidance. Else keep fighting and making this efforts in vein.
