we have been strugling between Rao and Abdur rehman. both are going for a lot of runs.why there is so hesitancy in giving Fawad Alam a chance. he is a reasonable left arm bowler and a very hard hitting batsman. what worse can happen. he may go for a lot of runs but at least he is an established batsman. his only fault is that he is from karachi. you have to perform 150% if you are from that part of the country and also on your debut, other wise you are out. others have to fail 150 times before they are kicked out. young openers like khalid latif will unfortunately have to face the same tragedy.

my feeling is that the PCB and selectors are nurturing Alam; letting him get used to international competition. allowing him time to absorb international venues; once he gets used to this and his team mates then he'll be thrown in there.
same thing happend with salman butt; he used to be the water boy for many tours (eg. that one day series in holland with india and australia before Champions trophy in england) before he got an opportunity.

sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go for it. players like wasim akram,tauseef,inzi and lately tanvir sohail were not the water boys for years before they were given chances. sometimes you just have to have an eye for a certain player.

^ true; but tanvir (on who the jury is still out) was an emergency replacement for shoaib akhter in 20/20. If the incident with asif didn't happen we all wouldn't even know who tanvir is. but because tanvir performed in 20 20 WC he's playing ODI now.
Also, if you throw a kid right into the fire he may just burn; why not take ur time with a young kid? y'know he has talent, so why not nurture it, add to it and then let him face the music?
i think PCB is doing smart thing with Alam. Lets not forget the mistakes of yester years with the likes of Imran Nazir, Shahid Afridi, Ali Naqvi, Hasan Raza. All these players have talent but because they were exposed at such an early age and had some success, yes but when they failed they lost their way and were not able to fulfill their great potential.
Imagine if Afridi didn't make that 35 ball century on debut; infact imagine if he hadn't even been called up. if he were properly nurtured he may be Pakistan's Gilchrist or Jaysuriya (all of whom have controlled aggretion).

what its going to take to get Rao and rehman out of the team and putting a stop to this musical chairs between them. you don't learn anything from sitting outside. the real confidence comes when you are in the playing eleven. there is nothing wrong in giving him a try. if he doesn't have any potential , work on another youngster. there are also lots of examples of players who started very young and played cricket for a long time for Pakistan. another example of neglected youngster is anwar ali. shouldn't he been given a chance by now or we have to nurture him for another five years. we have to understand that we don't have formal cricket accadmies and players learn the most when they are in the playing eleven and exposed to pressure games.

He has not looked good in the few chances he has gotten. Could it be that he has not looked good in nets too? That would explain lack of confidence from tour selection committee.

Ok. He has played one ODI. He got out on the first ball (which could happen to anyone). He has played two twenty/20's. He had one innings to bat in out of those two matches, and he was 3 in that inning.
My question is; where did he not look "good" as you so conveniently put it? Did you even see him bat? Because I sure as hell haven't, and I follow Pakistani cricket quite closely.*

I don't get why ppl complain about this karachi stuff? Shahid is from karachi, Sami is from Karachi...whats the big deal? No one will complain, but karachians will. Annoying.

He must be given some chances, atleast 25% of what players like(taufeeq, butt, farhat, nazir) got.
It was very stupid of Inzi (like dragging Razzaq and Akmal) to play Sami for this long. Had he been in India or Srilanka (not going for Aus/Eng) he would have not played for more than couple of series (the most).
Fawwad needs to learn some decency as well. He looks second Rana to me, showing off his teeth all the time and over reacting whenever ball is in his hands (like a gali mohalla type cricketer).

Malik has made obvious that he is not going to give chance to any new player in this series as they might not be able to handle the pressure. So we will not see any of the water boys in action any time soon. I think all the new faces might get chance against ZIM in jan(provided the senior players dont resign for being rested)

I was talking from seen him in the one ODI and one 20/20 and then from the feedback on his batting in the Indian ODI warmup match. I have also seen his domestic 20/20 final performance. I agree that once he is in the squad, he should be given a fair chance to prove himself in the field. To get selected in the playing eleven, he needs to win the confidence of captain and coach in the nets. That is something he has not been able to do.

I was hoping Malik would have picked Fawad Alam in 3rd ODI after dropping Rao but he screwed up by picking Abdur Rehman....really really really disapointed.
