Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
In my case, turns out a lot. =/ Kinda' annoying the heck out of me as I am one of those girls that has planned out everything, including names. Now I find out how my MIL MUST get a say in naming my kids (according to the Mr.) because "she never got a single say her entire life and she deserves this much respect".
I understand all that but naming kids? I mean, seriously? Is there no other way to show respect to your Mother?
That sucks.
Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
Ask the MIL if she has a name in mind. Then name your child the name your MIL chose and you can also name your child a name you want (as a middle name), and you can call the child by your chosen name and your MIL can call the child the name she chose. It's a win-win situation. Although it depends on how flexible you are. My gran named me and it's more sentimental than if my parents named me, but that's probably just me. :)
Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
No MIL does not even have right to live once her Son is married. She actually should commit suicide once bahooo rani signs the Nikkah Nama or steps into her house as her son's wife.
Everyone will be happy and independent then. Hope Bahoo Rani will allow son to complete akhri rasoomaaat of MIL. If not, then dont worry, what is Edhi for?
Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
They’re very serious about this stuff in Pakistan… like, *really *serious. I know a couple here who had a baby boy and they had kinda chosen a name already. But then the guy’s family made a big deal out of it and the couple ended up picking names out of a hat
They named him what the FIL had suggested. Smart move I say, no one could then hold any grudges as to why their name suggestion wasn’t selected.
If something like this happens to me, I’m going to pretend to pick names out of a hat and what do you knowww, t’is the name I had chosen!!! :halo: ![]()
Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
My FIL was the one to choose all the grandchildrens name, although after he passed away, everyone named their children what they wanted.
I would ask my MIL what names she liked.

I am starting to truly believe this... ALL MIL ARE EVIL!
I named my baby. I asked my MIL and all my husband's family if they like the name I picked or do they like something of their own. I gave my MIL the respect... I asked her several times if she wanted to name my son something different. I asked her for meaning of the name etc. She said she loves the name I picked. Point is, I really got her involved in all of this.. we are all happy.

Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
What’s wrong with consulting your parents in the naming process? - jeez, you girls watch too many of them Star TV soaps to perceive your in-laws as malicious. From what I’ve been told, my siblings and I were named by our grandparents from my dad’s and mom’s sides. It’s small gestures like these that help facilitate family bonding.

No problem with 'your' parent at all..........the real problem lies in consulting 'his' parents :D

your parents: suneen, ammi nai bhi 2-3 naam btaaeey hain, itne khush hain mashalla. Achey hain na yee naaam? (loaded question)
his parents: yeee aap ki ammi ko har cheez main dakhal daina zarori hai? mera bacha hai, main khud rakhoon gi naam...un sai kaheen unhoon nai kerleya shauq pora aap ka naam rakh ker, aab kia problem hai?
Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
only the parents of the kid should decide the name, saas sussar should stay out of it as they have already named their own kids.
Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
Ah man, wish we could go back to the age of innocence and humility.
So much of frustration, bitterness, insecurities, negative thinking these days...
Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
age of innocence and humility? when people used to marry off their 10 years old girls?
:p
Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
Were either set of the parents involved in baby making? No, right? You kept the baby inside your womb for 9 months so I think it's more than fair that only the parents of the child get to name their kid. You can "facilitate" family bonding by other means.

lolzz....yeah right, when it comes to babysitting the same people (grandparents etc) will nowhere to be found.
Re: Does a MIL have any say in naming your child?
Fact is that our "buzurgs" are the biggest babies and they're best at one thing, throwing tantrums.

No the age where grown up women did not act like 10 year old girls.
