isolating the movement of the hand, including the entire area from ONE side of the fracture to BEYOND the next side

i think he went to the doctors today...i'll talk to him in abit and will know for sure then :)

You could have Goolge-ed it, you could have gone to a medical forum, or you could have even have rung Nhs Direct.

i knew i was likely to get more responses here in cafe…and people could talk from past experience…and i have noticed a couple of doctors here in cafe so why cant i ask them

not sure about tendon damage b/c as Impulse mentioned that he can move his hand sometimes but at other times it get stiff. If tendon to be damaged the infected area would be swollen and once the tendon is damage ..nothing can be moved :S i would take a chance on nerve damage or nerve being pressured b/c of cast.

Hmm...i see wat u mean about tendon damage...but if it was something like tendonitis- as a result of the plaster cast...then my idea could be feasible....its most probably some weird-ass sensation due to being in a cast for so long- like nerve compression or something...

First things first, exactly which bone was broken, rather which part of the bones?
(I’m a lil disoriented, coming back after a 24 hr duty in ER so if don’t blame me if I don’t make much sense ) The reason he can move his fingers at times and not at other is probably when you keep your joints in a fixed position over prolonged period of times, the synovial fluid in the cavity gets absorbed. That is the most probably reason of immobility. When he’d excercise his hand, more fluid will be secreted, leading to lubrication of the joint cartilage thus facilitating the movement.But I can’t be sure of it without examining the hand.At the moment, I’d advise him to perform hand exercises regularly to avoid complications.
